The sunroof on my W900 started leaking, these use special shouldered bolts that i haven't been able to find anywhere. One bolt broke last week, then i got in it monday and the other broke while sitting over the weekend. Kenworth says they can't get them, parts guy said they were made by fairmount skylight, haven't had any luck running them down. I have it sealed up right now but can't open it, would like to get it fixed right. Has anyone dealt with these?

Ive seen guys remove them, take a piece of fiberglass or whatever the top roof cap is and fiber glass it in. Then sand, smooth, and paint.

I have one but it doesent leak on my KW, my tip to anyone who has one is take some armorall dash wipes, pop the sun roof open and wipe that seal down good every week to lubricate it, especially on those hot summer days when the sun is beaming down on it. My friends T6 is a 94 with one and it has yet to develop a leak.

What the heck is causing them to break?
In my area, there are some "nut and bolt stores" that service the oil refinerys, and chemical plants; they can usually order specialized stuff. As a last resort, a machine shop may be able to make some, but- $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I don't know what caused them to break. The bolts go thru the hinges and glass and the nuts are tightened to the shoulder to prevent breaking the glass. Both bolts broke off clean at the shoulder. I'll make another trip to fastenal, i may have to have a set custom made.

Maybe some flexing putting stress on the bolts, one may have been loose, I just haven't heard of that happening. As hard to get as these bolts are, you may want to find the problem before putting in replacements.

Brainfart- any large salvage yards in your area? Might try them.

My 96 W9 had a sunroof, never had any issues, but I also never opened it. All it was good for was to let the heat in during the summer. Useless IMHO.

I actually like mine, on a nice 70*F day you can pop it open and gives you a nice breeze inside the truck. I agree though it sucks in hot summer days!

The weather gods do not allow nice 70*F days in Lousy-ana
Either above 98*F with 98% humidity, or 33*F drizzling rain and 15 mph winds

What did you Northern folks do to inherit "nice days"? :biggrin_25511:
