For 40HP? That sounds odd. Was that a salesman (sales person for those PC) that quoted that price?
-
Well as heck the sensors out to get 40 hp.
joetrucker66 Thanks this. -
Yea I was shocked as well and yes it was the salesman that SHOWED me the prices on the build screen. Just like when you go pick options for a new car. Check the box and is shows the price that option adds to the rig. I dont get it, he did say that its cheaper to have the hp/tq rerated at cummins after the warranty is up. So Im guessing its cummins setting the price that they sell the engines at. So Im ordering the 565/2050 and a herd bumper instead of the 605/2050 and will have the funds to rerate the engine later.

Hard to tell if anything in trucking is good without putting a good 200-300 thousand miles on it. Especially a Cummins.

The air intake for the air compressor comes from the inlet to the turbo housing. The new front gear housings have a pass through built into them so that you don't have any extra plumbing going around on the very front of the engine. You will notice that the air compressor is a lot louder now that it is naturally aspirated.
The performance series has two line output from the fuel pump. The efficiency series only has one output fuel line from the fuel pump.
On the performance series the parts are the same from a 500 hp to a 605 hp rating. It is just an ecm calibration change.
I never noticed a difference between the 565 and the 605 rating at 2050 ft lbs of torque. Been driving the new engines for three years now.
I just got the new truck I ordered for the fleet in 3 weeks ago. 389 with the 525 rating in it. As soon as I get unlazy I am putting the 605 cal in it. It only has 1300 miles on it now and 1100 of it was from it being delivered.
When you do a fuel filter change on it try to get the spin on one on the engine as full as possible when you change it. It will help starting it up after changing it. If you want more details on that send me a pm.Last edited: Jun 25, 2017

Its been a few months on this post. Im looking into get a new international HX 520 dump truck with the X15 performance cummins engine. Just wondering how yours are holding up for you since these engines are new and not alot of write up about the durability of them?

Mines pulling 100-105,500 gross every day up here in the northwest and its doing pretty good. 565/2050, 18sp 3.58 rears with 11r22.5's in a 388 pete pulling pneumatic trailers and I have to run the engine at 900rpm to unload. Avg over the last month has been 5.2mpg. Run at around 65 and up the hills as fast as I can. Run 13-1500 on empty shift, 14-1600 loaded flat or small hill shifts and then bump it to 15-1700 shifts on the big hills. Most big hills she will settle in at 15-1550 an pulls hard. First oil change is coming up next week as I will be right around 10,000 by then but close to 250 hours.
