So instead of time and $ spent on a newer truck, I should probably use said money on the truck I have to update/upgrade.

I'm still wrestling with the idea though. I could just invest in the truck I have, and I could be better off.

Paid off is always better than payments, at least in my way of thinking. My dad (retired driver) has been telling me I need a newer 4 wheeler, mines 21 years old and long paid for, and I did less than $300 in repairs (working on it myself) on it last year, VS getting a loan and a $300 to $400 per month payment for 5 years or so. I still like paid off and my dad likes new w/warranty.

DPF/DEF trucks do suck, stay away from those no matter what if you get another truck.

I just had to do this 2 days ago to drive the used truck I bought off the lot. I used Great American Insurance. The agent is Insurica based out of OKC. $403 for 30 days... My lender doesn't allow the 10-day temp insurance for $210 so I had to get the more expensive option...( 30 Day )

Yeah, I'm quoting this again. I've been thinking about this and have a little more to add.

Are you wanting to get a "new-to-you" truck because of new/newer truck fever or are you thinking there is going to be some major money spent on your truck in the near future?

If it's just new truck fever, that's ok, you can still get one. However, take a few months to stockpile some money while you don't have any payments.

If you are concerned about a major expense looming in the near future, I would be inclined to trade asap. Just keep in mind what others have said a few times, unless it is new, you will be getting someone else's problems and those problems may not rear their ugly head for a while.

I think I had a moment where I was thinking about the "now what?" I got this truck and it could be a bridge to another truck, but why inherit new and exciting mysterious headaches when I am familiar with the ones I have. Yeah, I'll need an o/h in the next 200k miles. It's a big expense, but after that, I can probably squeeze quite a few more miles out of it before it's untimely death.
In the end, being beholden to nobody for a truck note is better peace of mind than if a turbo blows and I have a warranty.

I was thinking I needed bigger, better, faster , stronger. When I have everything I need right now. It's not winning any beauty contests, but it gets paid as much as a shiny truck to pull the same thing.
If I want I shiny truck, I'll buy some chrome and polish.
I think it's time to invest in the home team rather than look for a trade for a quick fix

popcorn169, RERM and 88 Alpha Thank this.
