We are not and never could be friends doing favors for one another right, if they have a load into no mans land that needs to move today, it is going to cost them 4 dollars a mile. So I can come back empty and still make 2 dollars a mile. It’s just business, right?

Business is business .... if it is truly a one off load then yes tell him it's $4 if that's what you want. What are you missing out on if he doesn't give you the load? Don't be afraid to ask for it. You are running a business, not a charity. Why on earth would you want to do one off loads that DON'T pay handsomely?

Don't buy into any of that crap "I don't have that much in it" or "I always get it moved for x". Reply with Call the guy that always moves it for x. What they have bid it for to the customer is irrelevant to your business. It is the same thing, if it was your customer directly, you still need to make a profit and you should be quoting what you need to make it work for YOUR business plan. If people think we are getting rich out here I encourage them to buy their own trucks and get in on the big bucks. More power to them!

Set um straight. I can't believe these rates on Step deck out here on load boards.
Some don't even cover your fuel and they think people who know their business will haul cheap freight. They r crazy. If it dont pay over $2.00 a mile. I'll sit ! And I'll keep looking for what I need to pay my bills.

So what's your point? If it's some random one-time deal, either get what you need or say no. If it's someone that keeps you loaded while others sit, that has value.
