Last night I had to work an odd shift, which hasn't happened to me before bc always been home before midnight or always started after midnight. I had to start at 9pm (6/26) and showed my pretrip, would I have to show another pretrip at midnight on my next days log (6/27), since would be off after getting back home for rest of day, so technically would only be showing a post trip today. Adding a pre trip to log won't be hard as I was delivering at midnight anyways. Just something I had always been confused about when having to log across 2 dates

No you wouldn't have to show another pretrip at midnight.....

You need to rethink the way you look at your log book. Logs run on a 24hr basis, it has nothing to do with midnight. Pretrips and Postrips are the begining and end of your day and has nothing to do with what would be considered a day that runs midnight to midnight.

The rules require your Record of Duty Status (logbook page) cover a 24 hour period, not necessarily start and end at midnight. I work nights and simply cross out the "Midnight" on my log pages and write "noon". I use my log page as a record from noon to noon. This allows me to start and end on one page, even on nights when I work late and work past midnight. I've done it for almost 20 years. My company is strict and has never complained about this.88 Alpha and brian991219 Thank this.

Did you do a pre trip at midnight? If you did you log it as on duty time. If not you don't log it. I don't see how this is a hard concept, but I'll repeat the adage of "log it as you do it."

What about those post trip inspections?. I park the truck and go home. I'll do the pretrip inspection before embarking on a new trip or a new day. Is it not enough?
Ubu Thanks this.
