I was reading in the handbook because I would like to get my CDL. I came across something about not being able to obtain it if I had received a ticket for driving without it. At the beginning of the year I was pulled over pulling a trailer for this company. Apparently it all weighed over 26,000 and I was required a CDL to haul it. I didn't know this at the time and my company never said anything about needing it. They just told me to drive it so I did.
Well I got the ticket and even though the company paid it. It will still be on my record. Now I'm reading up on it because I want the license and I come across this in the manual. Will this prevent me from doing so?
Driving without a CDL. Can I get it?

If the manual says you can't get your cdl then take that as law but call the DMV to make sure.
-
It is considered a 'Severe Infraction' just like a DWI. If that is the only thing on your record it is hard to believe they wouldn't let you fix the problem you were ticketed for.
-
I'll keep looking into it. I hope not. I'd really like to move on from my current job.
-
There's not much looking into it just call your local DMV or even FMCSA in your state.
-
Apply for cdl training at a cdl school or trucking company school and see what happens.
Where is your location? -
I'm in Texas. West Texas specifically.

I wouldn't trust a phone call to the DMV; some of those people don't have a clue what they're doing and will say anything to get you off the phone.
Apply to some trucking company that has their own training program.
Raider Express in Ft. Worth
FFE (Frozen Food Express) in Dallas (Lancaster)
Stevens Transport in Dallas
Apply online to these schools. They will check your MVR and let you know if your qualified to attend or not. They'll have the latest information on that. They won't waste their money on a bus ticket, meals, lodging, etc. if they can't hire you.
Apply and let the companies make the decision; sit back and wait; they'll let you know.Last edited: Jun 28, 2017
tscottme Thanks this. -
Not a bad idea. I was waiting for someone to answer my call at the DMV for my whole lunch break before I had to hang up and get back to work. I was reading more into the manual and it seems I might be ok as long as I don't have more than one serious infraction.

DMV is like the IRS, there is only a small chance of getting and answer and an even smaller chance their answer is correct. Unless they put the answer in writing it won't help you anyway.Chinatown Thanks this.
