When the job provides free housing and 3 meals a day, there might be a boom.
    Not likely nowadays.

If oil was at $80 or above per barrel, and stayed there or above man would a lot of people start to do better financially. But from off shore to south, and west Texas on up to Co,Wy, and ND it turned into a wasteland in spring thru summer of 2015.

I'm hearing and seeing different companies posting jobs on there website for hire. Especially west TX. But unless we are going to war. I don't see oil coming back this year.

There are a lot of ppl doing bad because of the down turn of oil and gas. Both individuals and some companies. So I hope there comes a change at some point cause some ppl went from 2k p/wk to 700 p/wk with an otr outfit. And are straight struggles in life right now.

So if there comes a pick up or the much wanted boom again. I encourage all. If your bringing in 8k p/month have your household budget at 3k p/month. Otherwise you will be like some of the guys that have cried, killed themselves, or just had a good one mental break downs. Because they didn't save there money!!!

Thanks Swamper for replying to my post. It's great to see you are making it work. Could I get more info on the company you work, or similiar company. Do you work just oilfields? Thank you

Heard a rumour around here in Alberta that companies are advertising online for jobs that don't exist. That the companies are just putting their feelers out to see how quickly they can get quality applicants if things bust wide open again. A friend of mine went to apply in person for a couple of jobs posted on job bank websites and was told there was no position (even though the posting was only up for a day or 2).

Advertising for jobs that don't exist yet is pretty typical in that industry.

Yes, I am going to say all of our work is in the oilfield, very rarely do I do anything outside the oilfield.

Here is a list of companies in our area. I do not know much about the companies listed, but I do know they are all looking for drivers. The list grows everyday with companies relocating to follow the work.

    • Hamm & Phillips Service Company
    • LuGreg Trucking - I know guys that work here and like it
    • Firestone - I know guys that work here and like it
    • A&A / Gibsons - I know guys that work here and like it
    • R&R
    • Stevens Transportation (yes, you are reading this right. They showed up about 6 months ago with water transports)
    • C&J
    • Super Heaters
    • Bostick
    • Deep Well Services
    • Big Star
    • Canyon
    • Brents Tank Trucks
    • Bison Transport

I work for Hamm & Phillips Service Company which is part of Superior Energy Services
    • Hourly pay + OT over 40
    • Starting hourly pay - Thomas $20.00, Weatherford $20.00, Watonga $21.00
    • Paid Bi-weekly
    • All new employees start on nights 7pm-7am (unless you are hired to operate the Hot Oiler, Pump Truck, Hydrovac, or possibly a Winch Truck)
    • Bunk house in Thomas and Calumet that drivers can stay in free of charge
    • Medical / Dental / Vision Insurance (goes into effect the 1st of the next month after start date)
    • Paid Life / AD&D Insurance (can increase up to $350,000 without physical or more with physical)
    • Paid Vacation hours accumulate on each paycheck (can take up to 11 hours per day if you have enough hours built up) I believe you will earn 2 weeks for 1-5 years, 3 weeks for 6-10 years, and 4 weeks for over 10 years
    • 401K plan - 4% company match, 100% invested day 1 (no schedule)
    • FR clothing provided free of charge (must be turned in if leaving company or there will be a charge)
As for equipment, we are all over the place when it comes to truck brands and transmissions and you will slip seat. (day cabs).
    • Trucks (2005-2016) - Western Star, Kenworth, Volvo, Peterbuilt, and Mack primarily make up our fleet
    • Transmissions - 6 Speed Auto, 10 Speed Auto Shift, 9, 10, 13, and 18 Speed Manuals
    • E-logs
    • No Cameras
    • Trucks are governed on average from 65 to 80 with 73 being the most common, just depends on which truck you drive. Some trucks are wide open, but with our e-logs, the system will start barking at you when you hit 5 over the posted speed limit. After 3 warnings from the system it automatically reports the violation to dispatch and safety.
As far as I know, as long as you already process your CDL w/Tanker Endorsement (permit only no longer accepted), clean MVR and background check you can be hired and we will train you for the following
    • Gauge tanks / Kolor Kut
    • Load / Unload truck at well sites and disposals
    • Water base mud
    • Oil base mud
    • Transfer fluids from one tank to another over the top
    • Pull bottoms
    • Flowback
I know I am forgetting some stuff, but hope this helps.

Good information Swamper. I have heard lots are hiring out there. I'm in the industry in Shreveport LA and it's. It hit here yet. But lots of drivers and hands are dragging up and heading that way. Rabbiporkchop-- the housing and meals paid always comes later if they run out of valid applicants. And honestly prob won't happen for a long time. But the money is there, if a man wants to work for it.

    rabbiporkchop and Swamper Thank this.

This company had a yard in Bainville Montana back in 2012 when I was working out there and all the drivers were telling me how they had Free Housing and three meals a day and it was the best company they ever worked for and they would never quit.
The coolest part was that every five weeks the company paid up to $700 towards a round trip ticket to fly you home and back or if you wanted to use that for gas and drive home they would just give you a check for 700 bucks every 5 weeks to pay for your round trip regardless of how you wanted to go.
