Well my plans failed. I plugged in shore power with the EPU running the sleeper A/C then disconnected the EPU battery cable to see if the a/cwould continue to run on the shore power.....It did not so I guess that answers that. Looks like im going to have to go with a rooftop model and a generator. Not what I wanted to do but such is life. In looking at the rooftops, it seems to me 13,500 BTU's is an aweful lot.....is that to much for a truck? over condensation occur?

Feel the same way about a 13,500 . Dealer says that they make 9000 but cost more $ . Go figure .

A few weeks back I tried out the portable a/c unit with a Champion 4500 generator. For me it was just to much of a pain to set up at night and it didnt seem to cool all that well. Now this was an 11000 BTU SINGLE HOSE, not the double so perhaps the double works better. The Champion generator was LOUD, even by truck stop standards. Looks like my next plan is to go with a 13500 btu rooftop unit. I returned the Champion and have found someone selling a used Honda 3000is for $1000. My mechanic says the cost of the a/c unit and the install "should" be around 1K......so that plus the generator outta put me around 2K, I think that seems fair? Im looking at the Coleman roughneck or the Dometic commercial grade one.......anyone have first hand knowledge of these two? are they worth the extra $$$ compared to the non commercial ones? Thanks!!!

^^ I can only speak for the Coleman Roughneck.^^
I've had mine since '05 when the sleeper was built. Only problem I've had was to replace the blower motor, couldn't tell you how many hours are on it. My gen. has over 10k hours but not all of that was running the A/C. It cools a 90" Double Eagle fine even in 100+* heat.
FWIW, D.E. would only sell the Roughneck on their sleepers. My only gripe is it's big and ugly.
D.E said guys tried non commercial units and most eventually went to a commercial unit.

Nope. D.E. "Genpac" ,it's their design and setup. 3cyl. Kubota and Marathon generator head. 4K watts. Sadly D.E. closed up years ago when the economy went down. FWIW, when I had the sleeper built I wanted a seamless build at their shop so I didn't mix and match stuff. $10K back then.

I've been following this thread for a few weeks, enjoying reading about everyone's a.c. adventures. I have a 2008 KW...T660 with custom 144 inch sleeper. I've been researching how to wire up a roof air unit. I have a 7.5kw generator that powers everything. One rv place I spoke with said run the wires to my breaker box and put in a 30 amp breaker. My question is: can I combine existing connections together to make room for the new one? There are some 20 amp breakers in there now. I see additional break outs for additional breakers in the box.

I'm a proficient DIY guy, so I feel confident tackling this job.

    Thanks for any replies.

    Who built your sleeper?
I'd ask them first unless they're out of business like D.E. If you get to northern Indiana Tim Weaver used to work at D.E. His shop is "Bald Eagle Services", Phone: If he's not too busy he might be able to talk you through it.

The one thing I know about electricity, you want it right.
