Correct, also some testing centers will also rent a truck for testing. A friend of a friend did this several weeks ago.

Advice?
Don't buy the truck unless you know what you are doing and it seems you don't.
If you have an issue with a lack of a driver, then go to this company and ask to rent one.

I appreciate your concerns and looking out for me. I really do appreciate it. I didn't mention specifics because I felt that it was irrelevant for what I posted.
I've done my homework as I've started all of this several months ago. It is more than I had originally anticipated. I've made it this far and not going to give up. I'd regret giving up now and not trying.
With that said, I have a single axle dual wheel international 4900 hooklift and will be doing roll off dumpsters. It's a class B. I already have my medical card, DOT# and waste hauler permits. The insurance was a pain. I've checked with about 30 companies before pursuing this adventure and was declined. Came across 2 that could write. I had insurance as they sold me policy then was cancelled as underwriters wouldn't write a policy they sold me finally came across an insurance company that specializes in waste hauling and received insurance cards yesterday. Since I'll be loading and unloading dumpsters I won't be driving every day.
I'll be operating within 100 air miles and not required to log.
Per CFR Title 49.
Subtitle B
Chapter III
Subchapter B
Part 395
Subpart A
Section 395.1
(e)Short-haul operations.
(1)100 air-mile radius driver. Adriver is exempt from the requirements of §§ 395.8 and 395.11 if:
(i) The driver operates within a 100 air-mile radius of the normal work reporting location -
You are correct you don't have to keep a log book. HOWEVER you are still required to obey the rules as it applies to Hours of service. The only real difference between long haul and short haul is how this time is recorded.

If his day job is 40 hours a week, that gives him 20 to work with. If he is pulling roll offs one day a week with an occasional pick up / drop off he can probably do it legit. He better get smart on recap and reset, though.
The question is: Can he make any money after expenses that way?NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
CColeman: You might talk to the guys at the shop that is going to do the inspection and future services on your truck. There should be a few CDL A or B holders there that may be willing to help you out or point you at a customer who can.

Big learning experience... Good luck
Hopefully if you get everything rolling your willing to work the hours to stay on top and actually turn a profit, and thats if you can pull steady work all year. Nothings easy we all know that. If you can find steady work and run the hours you will be ok. If not, your belly up. Good luck on your side hustle, so you think. -
I'll be a little bit snarky and say that I love America. Anyone with a dollar and a set of moxie can get up and build something out of nothing.
Just passing by, NavigatorWife and brian991219 Thank this.
