antenna length?

Ok for all you dudes who have more know it all than me i got a cpl questions..
1st i know when im in a parkin lot full of trucks it doesnt help but is resistance supposed to go up when you add length to lower your resonance point on 27185?
I had my field strength meter out just messing around while i was supposed to be clearing out my winter storage of clothes in the truck..
With my ant leaned approx 20 deg forward i also angled my meter the same and the reading got higher...I was understanding that the signal if an ant left in the shape of a mushroom head(sorta speak) and not like a dinner plate(sorta speak....Also noticed i had to raise my arm up(with meter in hand)and that also increased my reading...
If thats the case ill need a 14 ft ladder and ill have to have zero degree of angle when tuning and return it to 20 afterwards so that the wind can flex it back vertical again at speed....
Or am i missing something as usual??..

Your experiment with the fs meter should provide you an idea of how polarization works and how the relation between the ground, you and the meter works.

To model the rf patten takes a bit of knowledge and what you think as a visual representation of the patten is not close. Think of it as a long light bulb and how it reflects light, that will give you an idea.

 

Well even with a new car you still gotta chk the oil once in awhile..

 

Yeah that pretty much what i thought but i just used mushroom head..Light bulb is a much better idea..
I just found it odd how i ha to tilt my meter the same as my ant to get the higher reading..
As for my resistance i guess its time to break out the wire brush and clean up my bolts n such again,see if i can get resistance down to get my resonance closer to zero on 19..According to my mfj its 9 points to high when it was about 2 or 3..
