So, what's it like living in a truck?

movies(netflix dvd's) digital tv antenna can be found in almost any truck stop, vu cube portable satellite tv works through ur satellite provider idle aire if u can find it hooks to ur tv via cable and its like cable tv for the truck

 

I deployed on 5 ships and one submarine (boomer). Slept three high as a non-rate and two high in the goat locker. Small ships (FFG to CVN). Hot racked on the boomer. I miss "away the sea and anchor detail" every morning like I was at GITMO REFTRA! The sleeper isn't much different LoL.

Has anyone ever shared a truck? (slip seat)

 

Kinda like a moving home but a bed, TV, fridge, microwave, and a closet. It's fun living in my truck. But hey, it is hard when it's your first time. Hey, you will get use to it. I love my Freightliner truck, and I have a lot of junk in there. So, I don't think anyone wants to go inside my cab.

It's not silly.

It's about two closets big. Your office up front in a two step commute from your home sleeper in the back. Properly done, there is everything back there you have in your house. With certain limitations and exceptions.

For me it's not a problem for two people like a husband wife it's not a problem with a few ground rules added, for example if there is a domestic, one goes back and closes the curtain and does not come out or get visited unless everything is right again. That might take a while.

The other rule is whoever is in the drivers seat is the Captain. If that person says something, listen up. We can sort out the feelings later when the problem is past.

A properly equipped cab and sleeper has everything in it's place with the correct equiptment. I still have my 120 volt/12 volt truck tv and vcr which will not break on bad bridges. What I mean by bad bridges is sometimes it's built badly so when you slam on to it at 65 you either fall down with the tractor and then the trailer whipping giant forces through or the opposite, get slammed upwards and then forward as the trailer load takes hold. If you do not have your cab and sleeper stowed properly, everything including you has the potential of going through the windshield.

There used to be a set of three large drainage pipes under a highway across Staten Island at a 40 degree angle. The road had sunken around them. The whole rig would do a hop hop hop go airborne on them. Everything used to get scattered then.

But I'll answer this for posterity, and any noobs reading the board.

Yes I have, and your experience will depend entirely on who you slip seat with.

So the golden rule is "do onto others,,"

Bring a trash bag on the beginning of your shift, and pack your kit efficiently so you can be in and out of the truck in a few minutes.

For instance, use a roll up sleeping bag for a blanket, that way you can stuff your pillows & sheets inside of it as you roll it up.

Get a briefcase for your papers, maps & logs. Then a shoulder bag for your clothes. Travel light.

I will not slip seat with drivers who spend more time trying to find creative places to hide half empty bottles of Mountain Dew than it takes to just throw it out. (I found 16(!!!) bottles wedged behind the bunk heater under the bed once. How does one take the time to do that instead of throwing it in a trash bag?!?)

 

I did one summer. Other driver mirrored me,,you could never tell anyone had been in truck. He did the 1700 miles rounder and then I took the 4000 mile rounder. Other driver and I were well known to each other.

 

I never slip seated, per say, but I did come back from an injury one time to find my truck had been being used by a fill-in driver and their pet pig (our pet policy never specified what animals were and were NOT allowed...the bosses had no clue). The truck was a mess.....there waa hair everywhere....and I was still occasionally finding random remnants of pig feed throughout my sleeper (in a cup holder, under a mattress, in my laundry hamper, etc) MONTHS after the fact, even after a thorough cleaning. Never again.....

 

We cleaned our tractor in Memphis prior to going home in a rented car once. Three rolls of shop towels backed by 10% bleach and other chemicals and attacked the cab. By the time eveyrthing inch inside there was done, there were 4 trash bags full ready to dumpster. That thing was #### and span. FFE should be grateful. It only took us about 2 hours to get it done. It was not particularly dirty at all, we just restored it to a detail brand new condition with the benefit of having been disinfected totally for it's next driver set.

I find it amazing the words that are marked out when they are not used against anyone. lol. But that's ok.
