Hello! I've been browsing around for similar thread but couldn't find info about DD15. Got 2013 Cascadia with a Detroit DD15 in it with around 600000 mi on it. Yesterday this engine died on me, needs an overhaul. Freightliner mechanics say it will cost me around $28-30k for complete overhaul. There's also another option - I know a person who's selling DD15 with 350k miles on it for around $15k. I'm thinking about installing either this one or I found couple on ebay for 18-20k. There's also a local shop who claims to do a complete overhaul for around 15-16k, but I doubt their qualification and knowledge base regarding DD15. What would be the wise option to choose? Thanks

28-30k. Sounds like it scored a cylinder and probably needs a crankshaft also?

    What's included in those estimates?
The 28-30 through Freightliner seems reasonable and should come with warranty and use original parts.
If you buy used in the 15-20 thousand ballpark, you have to consider xxxx amount on labour and no warranty.

Heck for 28-30k you could buy two more of those Cascadia's.

You should look at buying a diff. truck unless you owe more than the truck is worth then tow it to the other shop and patch it up to sell it, then buy a truck that is ck out?P/S call the Det. shop and have them give you a est. it will be diff.

These Post-Emission Trucks are just throw-away Trucks.

Run them until they fail and junk them, they're not worth repairing unless it's Old Iron.

600k miles and needs a Overhaul already?

There's Pre-Emission Trucks out there that have over 1 Million+ miles without a Overhaul and still going strong.

Fix it, Sell it or junk it and buy a Glider or Pre-Emission Truck.

If you are going to rebuild it. Go to a Detroit shop not the freightliner dealership. And find out why it went down so fast should have gone at a million or more miles

Personally, I'd go with the Indy shop or use that 28-30k to just buy another truck.

Thanks for your replies. I found out that my truck has deleted DPF so my chances to repair it at authorized dealer are practically zero. Freightliner said they can restore DPF system + overhaul === $55-60k. So i'm going with indy shop. Another problem is to find parts for the engine. Detroit dealer said it will take up to 21 days to receive everything(except head), 7800$ for parts without head(hopefully mine is fine, need to test it tho) Wondering why there are so many problems with those D15s. Freightliner says parts are expensive and rare coz DD15 are generally considered reliable and can easily make 1 mil miles with no major problems.
Also I believe that my engine died so fast because of deleted DPF.

    baha Thanks this.
