For the OP, here's a spreadsheet I put together for a friend awhile back. He's a lease operator running under another company's authority and these are the numbers he gave me that I used to put this together. He's doing a lease purchase on one of their trucks & pays a rental fee for the trailer.
You will see that based on the numbers he gave me, he needs to average $1.80 ALL MILES every month at 10,000 miles a month in order to make his wages, benefits and 10% gross profit on the revenue.
Unfortunately, he's not anywhere close to $1.80 all miles. It's more like $1.50 a mile. So, he is essentially working for wages. Which if he's happy doing that, more power to him.

I like my Volvo. It's comfortable and the I-Shift automatic is great.
My base cost was $134,500. Your PB will end up being 180K before it's done. That's a difference of $45,500. If you're cool with that and you're into the "look" etc, who am I to judge? It's your money in the end
I plan to turn my truck before 500k miles and do it all over again anyways. It's a tool, not a show piece for me.
My bank is a small local community bank... -
Obviously, this spreadsheet is not all inclusive. Some of the variables are going to be different for others.

Thanks for the spread sheet. Will check that out. I'm also glad I am on the same thinking page as you along the lines of the warranty. For 10k for another 300k Mile warranty on the engine is for sure worth it.
Assuming I were to not run into any issues with my engine and such at 500k I plan to keep on keeping on with the truck to fully own. Hopefully, god for bid something did happen later I shall have a nice bank account to fix arising issues in the matter. Then again, I may trade it in due to the truck maintaining its high appreciation value and do exactly what you said, get another truck and keep on keeping on. I also have a bit of an OCD level where my floors need to be cleaned where you can eat off it. I try to keep things well maintained as much as possible. May see a guy in a nice pete here not before long at the truck stop spending 4 hours of his ten cleaning it down with elbow grease after a weeks worth of work.
Lets put it this way, my truck is a tool, but #### do I want it to be pretty too! It's my idea of fun trucking. Mind you, chrome won't get ya home!
Small local bank. Hmm! Makes me wonder which would be better for me to try and get a loan from to finance this thing. at 168k original price, 4-7k with things done to it from the same place and another 10k added for the warranty That comes out to about 185k depending on the other things I have done to it. -
I hear ya. Those long nose Petes are pretty. Just remember, there's a reason why fleets turn their trucks before they reach 500k miles.
