Truck Driver/ 5 car carrier driver
I don't work in auto transport and have no experience car hauling, but have some renewed interest in this niche and have been keeping an eye out for a way to get my foot in the door. I've also considered starting with a dually and 2 or 3 car wedge trailer since I already have a truck that would work but that seems like putting the cart before the horse with no experience. Is running a 5 car quick loader a good way to start?
Anybody know these guys?

Save your money and go to work as a company driver for Fleet Car or Tribeca right there in Port Newark.

The ad was for Tribeca.

To run that corridor, and deal with the daily BS that comes with it, the pay seems kinda low.
1500 a week +/- isn't enough IMO... -
I wouldn't say $1500 a week is bad money (if it's true) but the daily BS around here does get pretty brutal. I'm thinking about moving out west to Las Vegas in a year or so and half of me is thinking it would be smarter just to stick with the container job in the meantime even though it pretty much blows. I imagine running cars around here is no picinic either. This whole area sucks and I intend to leave it.
Tall Mike Thanks this. -
After taxes 1500 isn't that impressive for car hauling.
If you have a clean record call Jeff Trent.Brandonpdx and Ziggy319 Thank this. -
I should have qualified that by saying it isn't bad money in the world of dry van, LTL or container hauling as a company driver, which is all I've ever done since I started driving ~6 years ago.
Reefer, open deck or bulk/tanker work never seems to pay that much better for all the extra hassle involved. Cars seem to be an exception but there has to be a catch right? Are the hours stupid? Is it a lot more dangerous? Do you have to be much more intelligent and careful than an average driver?
Thanks. I'll call and ask for him.Last edited: Jul 10, 2017

If it were easy everybody would be doing it..
I did 23 years of van, reefer, tank, and some bull wagon before I made the switch...Wish I would have got involved in car hauling 20 years ago.
It has its share of bad days for sure, but I would only go back to pulling a box out of pure necessity.
and yes *most* of the door slamming mega fleeters out there now won't make it IMO..
I've read your posts, you get it, I say give it a try...rolls canardly and Brandonpdx Thank this.
