haven't seen any reports, good or bad, about reddaway.

well i'm here to tell you it's a great gig. get paid a decent wage, drive well maintained equipment, excellent benefits for me and my family, and i'm home every night unless the road get closed due to bad weather. it's a job, so some days are better than others, but overall, it's the best job i ever had!

Thanks for the pm can not repley do not have enough post yet I went to the terminal yesterday and he said very slow he said they took a 10% pay cut. The infomation you gave me sounds like a good gig I will keep them in mind when it picks up. So what are your runs like? do you work nights? How long are you out? do you get good miles? I am looking for line haul as well. Do they layoff often? What is the average yearly for the drivers if you do not mind me asking? What is your opinion on union terminal and non union? are you off weekends? thanks again

I've been with my terminal for ten years. Because of how our seniority board is, I am still on the bottom of the board. I've been laid off for parts of most years, and those years I haven't been laid off is only because the guy one spot ahead of me has volunteered to take a lay-off.

The line pay is great. I get over .50 a mile when I'm running line, and usually 500 miles a night. 3/4 hour for drop/hook triples, 1/2 hour for doubles or less. Line pay is what's kept me alive through most winters, working for line dispatch on an on-call basis. City bids are ok money, not as good as line, but it's nice to be awake during the day and asleep at night. Not that I'd know, the only city bid I've ever had was a dock/city bid that started at 1 a.m. on Mondays, 2 a.m. the rest of the week. The senior guys have the good start times.

If I sound a little bitter or frustrated. . .ten years is a long time to be living the way I have. I've paid my dues long ago, it just hasn't worked out at my terminal. Compound the YRCW buyout and this recession/depression, fuel price escalation, and some bad corporate decisions--I've just been hanging on while our manpower at our terminal has shrunk by a third. I've moved up eight spots on the seniority board and am still THE bottom guy.

    Not cool.

I'm getting ready to go OTR again, if I can find a good company and at least decent (ie. not "poverty wages") pay.

with 8 years experience, if your record is clean, start checking ltl terminals in your area. probably not much hiring going on right now, but it's gotta start picking up sooner or later.
