i have a 2013 volvo 730. I was wondering would my CPAP machine run down the batteries for 8hrs of use. If I do idle for the night how much fuel on average does it use?

It's going to be about a gallon and half per hour at idle.

You can throw down 30 plus gallons per hour on a mountain upgrade at max rpm.

4 beefy deepcycle batteries should be able to feed a 2 amp cpap machine all night. If they cannot then they do not deserve to be called batteries.

In my time we install inverters to convert to 120 volt to run CPAP for those who need to. But we always ran the engine at about 15 volts on the meter high idle feeding the inverter brewing coffee.

If truck doesn't have an Apu I would suggest idling it just as a precaution.

Someone told me the inverter would cut out if the battery levels became to low.

no. Inverter will be a parasite until the batteries die.

however, it might be a computer driven device, if so there is about 9 volts I think before computers quit. Then your batteries will be ok.

Yes, all trucks basically have a shutoff sensor to where batteries get to certain voltage shuts everything off. That is why I mentioned if you don't have an Apu not the crappy electronic one to idle running your cap machine

The old 3 in 1 usually did. Three to drain and one battery was isolated so that you will have something to start in the morning. I wonder if today's trucks still use that old way of protecting batteiry power.

The outlets in the new truck shut down sequentially, as low voltage thresholds are reached.

The 1500 watt inverter is hooked directly to the batteries, it sounds a low voltage alarm and I'm not sure it shuts down, some do because low input and output voltage can damage things.

Cpap should not require enough power to run a good set of batteries dead in 8 to 10 hours. A weak set, it could be a problem.

My cpap killed my batterys in a few hrs..I also had a cooler on my seat and a fridge..Even with cooler unplugged in the cold winter im lucky to get 5 hrs..My cpap also had a humidity sensor and a sencer to slow down or speed up the air as i got deeper in my sleep..I gave up on my cpap and decided to start looseing weight and use a zyppah..
