So, I just spent the past week in the hospital, come to find out I have Membranous Nephropathy — UNC Kidney Center and Nephrotic Syndrome. I am currently on steroids for it, and various other medications. Doctors say my condition is nothing to joke about, if its not treated and maintained, it can lead to failure/dialisys/transplant/death.
My question is
What will happen to my CDL? I have a local gig now, will I have to give it up and find something else?
CDL and kidney issues, medications, doctors, specialists...

Pretty sure you have to ask a CDL issuing doctor that question. Sounds like you got it treated and maintained?
Drink nothing but distilled water until you pee clear three times a day, maybe it will clear up. Three day fasting can trigger body stem cell healing of organs, we don't understand why.
Stay away from free refills at soda fountains, that water filter may be really old. Get better soon!x1Heavy, Danny N Angel and CallOfTheWild Thank this. -

My brother has 1 left. He's drinking that one into cirrhosis. The other was ruptured and lost jumping from one ice floe to another (a bad edge & slip landing).... I'd say he was younger and dumber.... but he's still dumb, so only the first part carries any credibility.
Take care of yourself. Hard to do, I know... quirky little caveat about being human: confirmation biases & active information avoidance... we seek what fits our agenda and ignore that which doesn't... Passively engaging in our own, often untimely, demise.
Farewell! And do ask a CDL issuing Doc what the terms and conditions are. I'd imagine with proper treatment you might get a 1-year.... but I'm not a Doc and there are to many variables to consider.CallOfTheWild Thanks this. -
Not sure what is wrong with your kidney. I was told that a high level of protein in the urin would keep you from getting a medical card. Not sure why, expect it could lead to diabetes. I only have one kidney and my mother has a 1/4 of one. She told me to make sure I move around as much as possible. Sitting all the time isn't good for the kidney. So I plan on drinking water. Didn't know it needed to be distilled water. I also drink cranberry juice. 100% cranberry juice. I think it's nasty but keeping my kidney healthy is worth it.

Tier Two is for the grandfathering of those not holding a medical card. It is however a reserves stockpile of drivers easily federalized to haul mourtary in case of post-nuclear attack or Yellowstone etc, anywhere in the USA at any time.
Tiers three and four and so on are for other things Trucking. Do a little googling. It does not hurt any. Enjoy!
As far as your Kidney... I will recommend to you that Life itself provided for long enough will lead to death etc. It's all in how you live it each day that is given to you.
I hope that your days pass in peace and joy. Not that hard ### grumpy sourpuss all dried out and in need of those fancy dyasislis machines to wring out the meanness.
have a great day Sir, And good luck to you too. I dont see anything prohibiting you from driving a big truck.Danny N Angel and CallOfTheWild Thank this. -
i'd say, go and see what your doctor says. maybe a regimen of meds and fluids will either cure or at the very least clear up what is going on. i am not a doctor, and neither are the other 27,000 people here so all we will have is opinions. but at the next DOT physical if you pee clean with no proteins then you may be good for another 2 year card. i think (but can't swear to it) if you pee out proteins, they will suspect you as being a diabetic, then you will have to go thru whatever process to get past that scenario.
personally, i'd only drink clear fluids like water (maybe bottled) and take your specialists advice, in fact he (or she) may very well tell you your future as a driver better than any of us.
good luck, keep us up to date!Danny N Angel and x1Heavy Thank this. -
If anything it's going to be that blood pressure that will nail you to the cross. If you do not stress in life, and maintain good fluids in your body without any sort of withdrawl symptoms from drugs etc (Lawful drugs possibly pain medicine etc) should prevent losing control of your blood pressure.
If I come off my medicine, in about 50 hours or on day three come morning when I do my own BP readings, I come up with about a 210 over 130 which is a genuine stroke risk Or even a clot that can kill you or worse. 40 minutes with the next new dose of medicine and it falls right back into 125 over 76 where it has to be always.Danny N Angel Thanks this. -
Sorry to just get to this, I've been tied up. I renewed my med card in March of 2017, 4 months after my kidney surgery. CDL Dr. looked at my notes, I had a copy of some paperwork from my surgeon and my family dr. about my surgery, the diagnosis, and prognosis, said nothing more. He had more concerns about my blood pressure and diabetes than anything else.
The truth is, listen to the Dr's, do what they say, you'll beat this.Danny N Angel Thanks this. -
