I will be in Springfield on Monday to start my orientation with Prime. I'm wanting to go flatbed as a company driver, but I'm curious if they will try to push me into refer due to my home location being FL. Do you guys think I'll have much problems being able to get loads in and out of the state when it comes to home time?
-
I didn't bother asking my recruiter, because I wanted to keep my expectations lower and I know recruiters love to promise the moon. It's not a deal breaker for me if I have to haul a box, but I've worked in shipping/receiving for a long time. I know how those distribution centers are and I've also loaded a lot of flat bed trucks for LTL shipments.. The flatbed guys always seemed to be much happier than the box guys.. 8D just saying.. lol
I know FL has loads here, I've checked the load boards but I guess it matters only if Prime has them. I'm looking to stay out 6 to 8 weeks at a time, so I'm hoping with that kind of time frame they'd be able to work with me on getting in & out of CFL with a flat bed. -
You should make sure your recruiter knows you want to do flatbed. There isn't a whole lot coming out of FL, quite often we bounce out.
If they are willing to hire you for flatbed then they have the loads to get you home.
Prime recruiters have some skin the game so it's in thier interest to find someone that will stay around. I think they'd be more likely to tell you they aren't interested than to blow some smoke at you.FullMetalJacket and crocky Thank this. -
Greetings Prime Flatbedders. Thread appears to be a bit dead. Considering a return to trucking and am considering Prime. At one time, I did flatbed for six months for another carrier and enjoyed it. I would like to hear about job satisfaction, work flow, customers, etc. from some current Prime flatbedders. I see Prime flats often in OKC, so may have to go hang at a truck stop to get detailed information and discuss, but I would enjoy hearing what y'all have to say.

I am considering prime for flat bed training. To get away from the van side of things.

Prime isn't a bad company and on flatbed side you'll be taught how to properly secure loads and everything else. I've enjoyed my time here.
NoBigHurry Thanks this.
