And this is precisely why i would never work for small pack again----even if it paid $50 an hour.

That being said, some of the UPS-ness has leaked down here to freight, and thus more stress. But only a little.

Had another very stressful Friday. NOw, my A/C is repaired, so that is a good factor.

However, as i affirmed earlier, i feel that if the words beginning with the initials of: F,S, MF, DS, and others are muttered more than 3 times a day (much less 3 or more times an hour as happens often in my case), then the job is not good irregardless of how much it pays.

*** i am NOT in agreement with what happened at the UPS package terminal on the west coast. But i can slightly better understand why it happened---when was the last time a drop and hook driver shot up a place......?

i also feel that, in general, any job that requires a handtruck and or ladders on the trailer, is also not good irregardless of how much it pays.

i yearn for drop and hook TL with no contact whatsover with anyone.

    Going Brown

Now, i want to point out that i feel that UPS Freight is still a very good company.

But i will comment on the above article as soon as i can.

If they have drivers working so much overtime why won't they just hire more?

    UPDATE:
More fun, more money, more automatics.
We bid on new routes and started them. i'm on xtra board now. Much more fun and variety. i should break 65K at least, this year. Possibly more. i'll be getting another raise in about a month.

i have to admit that lately i was a little depressed (only a little) concerning the situation here; i thought----was this it? Just running this route (which wasn't bad) all day, not having a whole lot of time to do much else after work for ok, but not great pay. Then the weekend comes and since there's no time to do anything during the weekdays, then the weekend goes by too fast. Then wash, rinse and repeat.

But the new routes give me more money, thus i can pay to get certain things done. Plus, it gives me more energy and spirit to do more things myself during the weekdays.

    a) i still don't like Volvo, but i have to admit that these new volvo tractors we got, with automatics are ok.

Now, i want to comment on the unfortunate situation and article:
    Going Brown

    1) i want to point out that ups package and UPS freight are really two different companies under the UPS umbrella. i guess technically we are all one BIG company, but we really operate as two different companies---totally different atmosphere.

    2) i don't agree with the premise of the article; Those personal problems do not have anything to do with shooting up a place due to working "too many" hours. He could have quit. LOTS of other drivers are in the same position, myself included, but you don't see everyone going on a rampage. In my case, i think it will work out.

    3) Having worked for "package," This is the UPS everyone knows about---with the brown step vans, i can say that UPS IS NOT for everyone; It IS the most anal-retentive, production oriented company on the planet BAR NONE. If you are not anal retentive, northwestern-type, high production oriented, then UPS may very well not be for you.

    4) As i said, Freight and package are really two different companies, HOWEVER, some of that UPS-ness HAS leaked down to freight. Again, be aware that UPS is all about anal-retentiveness and efficiency. Some of that is stressed here at freight, but not to the extent of package.
i feel if you're doing what the managers want you to do, then you won't have any problems and will thrive.

i would NOT work for package again unless it paid $100 dollars an hour. Thinking about working at package makes me physically sick.

    b) i'm not sure what is going on with photobucket, so i may have to just post the numbers of the check until i find another photo hosting site.

Until i find an alternative to photobucket, i'll just post the numbers:

    6/24: Gross $1048.98
    48.36 total hours

    7/1: Gross $980.50
    45.82 total hours

Still surviving on $20 per hour, will be getting a raise to $24 in a few weeks.

X-tra board IS the life: More fun, more variety---get to see all sorts of people in different parts of town, different trucks---could be driving a straight truck one day, a 53' trailer the next. Really enjoying the job.

    7/14: Gross $1288.71
    48.32 total hours

    1) Here we see that, in comparison, to two weeks ago---the 6/24 check, that the gross for THIS week was significantly higher even though the total hours were LESS. This is because this was the week of July 4th, which was a paid holiday for us, thus the total paid hours for this check were actually 56.32. Total hours WORKED was 48.32.

    2) All managers are quitting or have quit. i'm thinking about jumping ship too. Will explain in greater detail later........maybe.

i applied for a gig on UPS website. I got several calls. The 1st call instructed me to go online and complete the application online.

The second call said they would send me an email. I asked the asked the person over the phone should I just complete the application via online... She said no. That the position online was with someone else. I said whats the difference? She said the online application was UNION. The position she had was non Union... (Same Job).... lol i said okay and hung up. I never filled out her application... Only the Union gig
