So if your going 50 mph as long as your 17 ft away from the car in front of you your good....?

80 kph = 49.71 mph
5 m = 16.40 ft

 

80 km/h... =22.22 m/s
So 5m is minimum following distance, or about 1/4 of a second...
So forget all that they teach us about multiple seconds as speed or other dangers increase, poor visibility or heavy traffic or heavier vehicle or rain/snow on road, just make sure you are a good half second behind and it's all good.
Seems legit...

 

There not judging motorists on driving test standards. They're trying to insure they only target the most dangerous and aggressive drivers. Seems reasonable to me.

Every day, we will all momentarily follow too close either due to our actions or actions of others, if you're judging on "book standards". You want to receive a ticket for all those times?

 

That'll change quickly when they need more money.

 

I hear this all the time, but don't agree. If it was about revenue, quota, or anything like that then cops would be sitting in construction zones 100% of the time. They could not carry enough tickets in their car to write ll the tickets for speeding, following too close, lane violations for trucks, etc...
And since it's a construction zone it tends to be a higher fine, without the possibility to plead lower.

 

They're not after you for speeding there after you for tailgating 17 feet is still tailgating

 

I agree with it, ATL has some of the most arrogant,stupid,dumb-##s drivers on the planet. Can rarely ever go there without being in or seeing dead stop traffic jams everywhere. ATL sucks period.

 

Ive seen 6 lanes become 9 then 12 then 16 and finally 24 and beyond on the turnpike in Jersey as they added more and more. It does not cause people to get moving again during rush gridlock. They still sit.

One police car against 60,000 potential tailgaters is not enforcement.

If you do not have enough room to stop quick, you are tailgating.

 

It's all done with laptop and laser printers these days. Those days of writing tickets in a book are becoming less and less.
