I am driving a 1993 Freightliner with a Cat 3406b and last week the oil pressure would go down to 30psi when it
was idling and then come back to about 48psi when driving. At the same time the motor started running a little rough.
I changed the oil and oil filter and the pressure bounced back immediately and the motor was running much smoother-for three carefree days. Today it started doing the same thing. When idling it goes to 30 psi and on the road it goes up to 48psi.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Cat 3406B fluctuating oil pressure again.

Send off a oil sample to ck for fuel in the oil?
Rick Wilmath Thanks this. -
When did it last have bearings rolled in?
Rick Wilmath Thanks this. -
Doesn't seem too out of line to me if the engine has any amount of miles/hours on it. Most of them would only run 58psi hot when they were fresh. We used to run them down to 25psi at low idle before rolling shells into them.Rick Wilmath Thanks this.

I recently bought the truck. It has 2million miles on it so I don't have any idea when bearings were last installed.
I haven't sent in an oil sample yet but that seems like a good idea. I just changed the oil, how long should I wait before I can send in a sample?
Thanks Kranky1 I would like to get a few more miles out of it before I do an inframe.
