All true. The cigarette lighter plug method is doomed to failure. There is nothing wrong with the cooler electronics. The plug becomes loose and creates a relative high resistance. Resistance at that current draw equals heat. The more heated it becomes and the higher the resistance becomes in turn causing more heat until destruction. Classic thermal runaway. The best method is to hard wire and you will never have another problem.
IV=W like the ladies name Ivy Watts is the easiest to remember but it is also V2/R and I2R. All are wattage formulas. Resistance is the bogeyman. It applies to all electronic equipment.
Colemans do work but overall they are crap compared to the other 2 brands. The smaller Koolatron with the cooling unit in the lid is definitely a better cooler. I have taken 2 Colemans apart and rebuilt them and they are sloppily made.
Sidebar. How to repair a Coleman for nothing. Take a screwdriver and dead Coleman to Walmart then go inside and buy a Coleman. Take Coleman to your car and swap over the cooling unit. Box up the new one and return it to Walmart. Say it doesn't work. They will give you your money back on the spot as they couldn't care less.

Well all these threads about the coolers have reminded me that I've been meaning to fix mine. Anyone know exactly what size fan I need to order so I can take care of that when I'm next home?
I need to replace the outside fan in a Coleman cooler. -
I've talked to a lot of people about these coolers. A lot of people have coleman and roadpro coolers with dead fan motors. As it turns out coleman stopped selling replacement fan motors about 5 years ago. Roadpro had one that fit both roadpro and coleman coolers. They also stopped selling them a few years ago. Koolatron is the only one still offering a replacement fan motor.

Thanks for that, however I do not shop at wally world. Don't even like to mention the name. I can not stand what they've done to small mom and pop type local businesses over the years. The big A with a stupid smile on their boxes is no different, they just do it online. They are killing small business and I refuse to buy from them. Their goal is to outsell even if it's at a loss to put others out of business. once there's no more competition they raise their prices back to a normal. Ever notice how crappy their schwin and mongoose bikes are ? Compare one of them to a bike shops bikes. Frames are crap, brakes are crap, bearings are crap. But hey, it's an $80 bike.

I feel like a thread should be started about the service there at UPS. A few months ago my new TV showed up nearly bent in half. Now my new cooler and crock pot were on the truck for delivery today and the darn thing just drove on by. I called UPS and they assured me that it was out for delivery and I would have it today. Of course they wouldn't give me the phone number for my local hub. So my new cooler and crock pt never did show up today. Guess I'll have to guess when the hub will be open tomorrow and run out there. I'd really like to have this stuff before I pull out Sunday. A buddy of mine in CA had some stuff shipped next day air. He paid over $300 just for shipping. It was supposed to be delivered 3 days ago. Was on a truck for delivery there on the right day, but the driver showed up with some kind of slip, tell my buddy Hey I'm supposed to have a package for you but it's not in my truck, but you're welcome to come take a look. LOL. Oh boy these guys are a fricken hot mess. Now I realize I took free ground shipping, but that has nothing to do with UPS and my stuff was supposedly on the truck for delivery today. In fact here we are 11:30 pm and it still says on truck for delivery. What a joke UPS is.

I've done all three, the 12v fridge was by far the simplest and most reliable way to keep food cold. Having it fit nicely in the right side storage space and actually mount to the truck was fantastic. When I stopped driving regularly I sold it for nearly what I paid for it.
