I found this info:
"A driver with a Class D license can now operate a passenger vehicle, a limited use automobile, or: A truck with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,000 lbs. or less. (Before, a Class D driver could only operate a vehicle with a GVWR of 18,000 lbs. or less.)"
What do I need for this type hauling?

My truck a Ram 3500 dually and 40' trailer weighs right under 20,000 lbs full of fuel and all gear. That's an empty weight.
If you plan on running under 26k that doesn't leave you with a lot of cargo weight.Lite bug Thanks this. -
I posted that yesterday....I also posted a link to it.

Deep pockets

I got deep pockets but there empty.. From what i have learned trying to start up my own company. 1. you need your MC, 2 You need your USdot. 3. You would need a truck rated no more that 10k GVWR so an f250, 2500 ex. series single rear wheel. 4.You would only be able to pair a 15,999 lb rated trailer to that. Anything over an you need your CDL. Now your go over the 10k on truck = CDL or not over on truck but over 2 pounds over 15,999 on trailer and you need CDL. does not matter the load weight at first.

Midwest is asking the appropriate question. I will ask it a different way. What is the GVWR on the sticker inside the door of the truck. What is the GVWR on the tag of the trailer.? Add both of the manufacturers weight rating and you have your answer. If you are over 26,000lbs you need a Class A CDL, if you are under you can operate with your regular license ( in most states ) Check with your home state some have different guidelines. However your home state recognizes under 26,000 lbs all other states will honor you at the scales.
