ELI5 for CB radios

Read the original post guys. A Cobra 19 with a decent out-of-the-box antenna, properly tuned is all he needs. He doesn't need $10k worth of gear and antennas like I have here in the shack as I sit here lettting the computer make contacts using the FT8 digital mode.

 

I was going to tell him buy the most expensive radio antenna coax and mic he can find. And he still probably won't be happy......

 

Uniden pro 520xl, use the little stock mic.

 

Ya can't talk across the truck stop lot or the wal-mart lot with that thing. He should get the good ole Cobra 29 classic their reasonably priced and the standard in the trucking industry !!!!!

@rabbiporkchop would have a good answer on how long of top load antenna you would need. I know you would need a bird perch for it, but as for crapcadias I'm not sure.
