THE TRUTH ABOUT MAVERICK
Well I just quit maverick and now I can tell you starry eyed new guys the truth about what a typical day is like.
One don't be surprized after all the smoke is blown about how they operate professional and legal is blown and you will realize that no-one and I mean no one in this industry can run legal and make a living.Some do it to a lesser degree and It might not be told outright to you to do it and that is because they will not take that risk it will be implied tho and if you dont you will be punished and weeded out let me explain my typical day:
I would try to drop my load as early as the consignee would open say 7:00 I would arrive and usually wait for other trucks and lazy mill workers to get the load off average time 2-3 hours (maverick does not pay detention till after 3 hours and its 8 dollars and hour shows what they feel your worth) also figure putting equipment away takes time
Ok
now I have placed my empty call in and I wait and I wait maybe by 9:00
I get a message to drive 50 miles for a 2 oclock pick up at us steel which has a policy of half hour early to half hour late to load
so I drive the 50 miles and I wait and I wait till 1:30
This has been 5 and half hours already
I put my pick up number in the computer and I receive a load slip and I jump in the truck and scale where the scale man tells me what door to report to
well lo and behold there are 5 trucks waiting in line in front of me Well you know that there is 3 hours till I get that precious detention pay and guess what at 5:00 they are finally lowering my coil on the truck
well you might say hey thats 3 and a half hours you get 4 bucks right!!
wrong!! you dont get detention till 3 hours after your appoinment time and as soon as its on the truck you are loaded tarping and securement do not count
So... now I have to secure and tarp ill say an hour and a half with paper work and trip planning
ITs now 6:30 and you guess it I havnt made a cent yetbecause now I have to drive all night to get it there
and the process repeats
11 and a half hours to get a load off and on is typical in steel hauling I was in the regional steel belt route and all I hauled was steel and short runs average 350-400 miles a day
after all week of this then I would get home friday at midnight then have to leave sunday afternoon to start the process over
Oh yeah if you decide that you dont want to work 19 hours a day and try and run legal the csrs will give you a load at 8 at night to pick up after you onload and it will be for a 200 mile run they will cut your miles and increase your non-paid wait time they find great humour in this and really dont give a dam if you quit or not because they have a over 100% turnover rate and are grinding as many drivers through their orientation as they can its a revolving door company i met very few drivers here that had any substancial time with the company and the ones that did
Well... How do I say this nice possible brain damage....hummm limited education learning disability seems they were where they needed to be because there isnt much else they could do
oh by the way I stuck it out for 6 months thats all i could take
Just a warning that it isnt a bunch of rosesFaber Thanks this. -
I copied and pasted the above post from another site

-I ran #### hard my first year there, not only for my family, but for the company that was paying to take care of my family. As a STUPID rookie I would hear those with more experience say, "I always put in I have 10hrs. to drive." (1-did they really? and 2-did they drop first thing in the morning like I always did the first year?) And in all honesty I wanted to be able to go get any load after empting they needed me to get (remember this was my first trucking job).
So essentially the above story is what happened to me, for my first year. There were weeks I got....lets just say sleep was a minimum.
-Now I'm not talking bad about the company, I'm trying to educate any rookie to what I didn't know when I started. So here is an explanation;
-you and another driver empty at the same time and place, he sends in that he has 3 hrs. to drive, you hit 10 like usuall and figure, 'I'll get moved whatever they need me to move.'......Well the person on the other side of the computer sees this info. and says....{'you got 10hrs. so you can go get the load that is 3 hrs. away and still get it 350 miles by tommorrow morning appt.- theoretically legally.'......The other guy has 3 hrs. to drive and then needs a 10 hr. break....so I'll send him to get the load that is 3hrs. away and then he can have the two day run that goes 750 miles and doesn't deliver until sometime the day after tommorrow."}
-What does that mean?....it means you will waste time loading and unloading then loading and unloading again, to get the same/close to the same miles, while the other guy loads once, sleeps and unloads once. Who's fault is that? Well your stupid rookie butt lied about your hours....wether you did it thinking you wanted to help the company/ or out of greed or both...end result is the same. Is a company gonna say to you, '#### it, quit moving so much freight and all these little short runs for us and making us money.' If you aren't damaging anything and are doing o.k.? Proably not.
Now am I saying that was the case in the above story.....NO.
-You get the idea...Now am I saying put in less hours all the time, Oh no...that would cause you problems....am I saying you wont get sent after a load that you 'legally' cant do....no.....BUT what I'am trying to do is show you something that took a year for me to figure out, after running myself stupid on short loads, but still getting miles all off of short loads. It wasn't untill in a slow season when some info. came out that claiming more hours could steal low freight from other divers (and I wasn't about to steal miles from my brothers on purpose) ...that I learned that claiming actual hours would also get you longer runs and more sleep sometimes to. -So my advice, well thats your problem to figure out, I'm not gonna blow smoke up your rear and say that the above story isn't true....cause it is the lifestyle that is flatbedding....and it is a business....and crappy things do happen...I'd read that story...listen...read this...listen....and listen to all you can from anyone ....then well....figure out how you want to handle things....I'm not hear to tell you right/wrong....or that you will/won't get screwed/messed with....just trying to show you some of the scenario's that can happen....Last edited: Nov 4, 2008

i utilized your services; you did not help "clear up" anything.
just left a retaliation comment.
in the end though, it worked out better that you couldn't. -
Dacfix is a JOKE! Complete WASTE OF SPACE company. I made the mistake of wasting my money there. Nothing was ever done. It's a load of crap. And they out right lie to you about how long it's going to take, when they get reports, how they will help you, etc. All they care about is their MONEY! Once they have your MONEY, you are on the back burners. They are just as bad as these P.O.S trucking companies!
P.S. I read through this entire thread to see if Dacfix ever ended up helping Faber. I doubted they did, but I was hoping I was wrong. I wasn't. They confirmed they care nothing about you by paying attention to THIS THREAD. Look at all the detail here and mention of dacfix, now couple years after the start of the thread, here comes DACFIX bopping in trying to sell their B.S. service. Which means they probably only read the first couple of posts, skipped to the end and put out their mating call "pay me pay me pay me" with no interest in the story, or what is actually happening, or the fact that the person already wasted their money on them...... should check out the BBB report. I would have continued fighting my complaint against them except the BBB wanted money to continue. Why would I waste any more money on this piece of crap company. Doesnt make any sense.Faber Thanks this.
