Me and the wife are thinking about team driving. Need suggestions.

Thanks for all the info @Chinatown. As for the auto thing, I dont want this to be a debate thread about autos or manuals. I want her to train on a manual so she know how to drive one because not all companies have autos and the companies we go with to get her started is probably not the company she will be at forever. She needs to know how to drive a manual. And professional driver that can't isn't a professional driver. If you show up to a job and they throw you in a manual truck for a road test and you are grinding gears and can't drive it because you have only driven a auto since driving school they are gonna kick you out. I have seen it happen more then once.

Jim Palmer Trucking uses 10 speeds & has their own cdl school. They're owned by Wil-Trans which also has their own cdl school and uses 10 speeds.
Jim Palmer Trucking runs coast to coast and Wil-Trans runs eastern half of USA.

Have 12 speed auto..... get better then 8 mpg daily every day. Have seen as high as 8.9 several times..several years ago met a driver with 18 speed auto shift in a volvo.

How fast are you driving ? I get 7.4 at 72 mph. We haul only like 8,000 pounds.

The issue is I have 10 years experience amd she is goimg to go to school and get her CDL. So I need a company that is good for teams, will take an unexperianced driver and run her with a trainer or let me train her. Then we can run team. BUT I am not going to run for a company like swift or us express just to get her a year of experience. Here is what I am hoping to find.
- Decent trucks
- Not autos because I want her to learn how to drive a real truck.
- probably wont get this but hopefully 13 speeds because 10s suck.
- and if at all possible apus on the truck or if not the company better not car if the trick is idled when we are sitting when its hot or cold.
- hopefully long runs also
- dry van or reefer
- not to worried about getting home all the time. As long as we can for a few days a month or so.

If anyone knows of any decent companies like that then let me know. Thanks guys and gals.

DON HUMMER Trucking. Check em out. Auto Volvo, international, and kenworths. Manual kenworth and peterbilt. The have what you need. And you have the seat time for an instructor position.

70 MPH average weight around 17k occasional backhaul 42-43k

Call Grandview in Vancouver Washington. They would problem let you train your wife. They are a fantastic smaller company to work for. Their paychecks are always good. Nice equipment, decent shop.

I saw on their sight they have training programs for experienced drivers who wamt to train someone. Can you tell me if they have APUs on their trucks, and if they have driver facing cameras?
