I am currently in school to get my CDL... however it was brought to my attention from a friend that I need to do some research. My license was suspended for child support 5+ years ago. I got it reinstated 1 year ago...would I qualify to get my CDL? I don't know if "A suspension or revocation in the 36 months immediately preceding application" is from the date your license was suspended or the date of your reinstatement.

Not to hijack, but isn't that the dumbest thing they can do? Oyy hai! He ain't paying the child support! Let's take his license so he can't get to work and pay it if he wanted to! Brilliant!

I agree but back to the subject and what I know, which can be wrong but ...
You don't need to worry about it when you apply for a CDL, the worst thing that can be said is NO.
So run over to your local DMV and get a CDL manual to study and tell them what you are going to do and what happened, most likely they would say "not an issue"
BUT!
The company you train with or get hired to drive for may have an issue with their insurance company where they say, "Nope, can't drive for us. "
Remember if you hit that wall, just keep trying, because it isn't personal, it is all about insurance business.Danny N Angel Thanks this. -

Yes child support has been caught up for years

My license had been suspended the year before I applied to get my CDL, and then a driving job. It was for non payment of a fine and when I got it paid it was re-instated. It didn't cause me any problems. Of course, it was 20+ years ago. But I don't think it will be held against you. Better make some phone calls and find out for sure.
