I want to get into the transportation industry for a career but can't afford trucking school. I'm 20 years old and will be 21 on august 14, 2017. I'm from the Saginaw-Midland-Bay city area of Michigan. If anybody is willing to help me get my cdl and work for you that would be great! I'm also willing to pay for the permit testing on my own. And I also already have my D.O.T physical. Thanks for any replies or answers.
Need cdl training, will be 21 next month.

The company I work for requires a CDL + gratuation from an acredited school with the proper amount of class time plus driving instruction (4 weeks total). The companies like prime and others who give you that CDL with accreditation are free. You just have to commit to them for 1-2 years. But you probably knew that.
-
Vo tech school it's not that much. As a trucking company will charge
-
Community college trucking school I think is your best bet. They are usually very inexpensive and you could probably get financial aid. Also tends to be some of the best schooling for a CDL that there is. Best wishes!

Call a trucking school directly and get info. Many finance you. Some companies have their own schools but will lock you in for a while to drive with them.

Thanks for all the answers so far everybody! I'm trying to see if I can qualify for a tarff program. And if that does not work out i'm thinking of going with Millis.

Millis is great from what I have read on here.
If your looking to go to school on Own thier is 2 companies that do in house financing at 18% (ack) Federal Pell Grant will cover a good Portion at some schools
WOiA will pay for it also but could take 4 months. Thier may be other programs in your area that will assist you.
Research Everything you can I been studying and taking notes for 2 months.
I learned about Millis mostly here. I have not seen a complaint, and I have not seen one driver disrespect anyone here and they have given out good information. -
Anybody know of any trucking companies in Michigan that will train? Not saying going out of state to learn somewhere is bad, I just prefer staying in my home state if I can.
-
Research Prime. Im here now and overall its been good. The thing is any company who will pay you back for your training costs will pay you less your first year and will require a time commitment.
Prime has a 1 year agreement but they cover everything, hell they even feed you while you are here and its not bad food. Added bonus is they let you draw $200/week until you get your cdl then after you get your cdl you are hired and you finish up your traini g with $750/week min until you move on to your own truck.
Also their terminal in springfield is awesome, weight room, basketball court, movie theathet, pool tables ect..ect
Imo it would be stupid to go anywhere else as a student driver for your 1st year. Its not all perfect many of the teachers treat you like a number at 1st but long as you get the permit and do what is expected of you, they become more friendly.Last edited: Jul 23, 2017
