Thank you for saying this. You were more polite than I would have been. He asked for advice and is pretty much ignoring all of it. So, whatever. Let him learn the hard way and in 6 weeks he will have another thread on here saying how bad he hates the company and will be asking for advice, again.
    ALL MEGAS SUCK!!!

For the love of God, I mentioned a handful in an earlier post, along with a few other people. Is the illiteracy rate really this bad?

See dude... I thought that way too. Until you learn how miserable your life can be. Problem with Western is they are a red flag for the DOT. Especially if you go flatbed. The trailers are about the worst I've seen on the road...and I'm not exaggerating. With both of these companies, along with many others, they could care less if you live or die... nevermind if you're actually a human being. You will most likely beg to get home. And if you do, it won't be for the weekend. Long enough to eat, take a dump, go to sleep, do your laundry and leave again.
With Western, you will also be disrespected by about every driver out here. They've earned it.
I haven't ever spoken with a USX driver, but from everything I've read, the pay is crap. And you really will fight to get home.
My advice, if you can't get on with any of the companies in your area, is eat the OTR time. Just go solo. There are companies that do 2 and 3 weeks out.
I only said this because you'll run from crap company to crap company until you have such a distaste and job hopping reputation, that you won't get hired where you really want.
And though I couldn't tell you which of those is worse, maybe take a look at Werner. I think they have regional freight up our way. I'd probably choose them over the 2 you picked. Check em out. But again, I have no first hand experience with them.
I would pay my dues going out a couple or few weeks, as much as it sucks, with a better carrier if you can barely it though man.

omigosh to the GODS.... don't let them put you on a DOLLAR store account, man! Chances are, they will sure try. The tricky backing and all the unloading..... up to you, bro. JMHO would be nope. Many men have ended their careers in a Dollar General. They are not designed for us'n's...... at all. And nobody cares. Personally, not ever myself. One of our two is a USX guy, the other is a Werner. NOT bashing the companies....by no means. Those accounts are for younger guys that can almost drive in their sleep, maneuver to the nines, and then pull 30 boxes off . . . . and be too tired upon arriving home to even care that they are there. I've known a few ... trust that.

I understand there is dollar generals here and from seeing a semi parked it looks like they must do some type of backing from the road into the parking lot

SOME type of backing doesn't even cover it. Google Map the Dollar General in Lexington Ohio, on Orchard Park Road, and US 42. They have some goofy CURB thing for the cars to know which way to go to exit. Definitely a wtf kinda moment. I'd send it to you, but don't know how...and I'm on a PC and close to nap time before work.

Humor me, just look it up. Zip Code, 44904... The Werner guy that pulls that one has been with 9 years. The "other" Dollar store is a USX guy (i think, not sure.. ) in Mansfield...I've never seen the same driver twice.

It's not for the faint of heart, whatsoever~~!
