Prime Tanker

Mainly, the shippers and receivers. Most are pretty smart people and easy to deal with. They're not simple, low IQ people that walk around like a whiny child that lost their toy, such as grocery warehouse employees.
I easily made $65K and 50% of my miles were deadhead, which pays the same as loaded.

 

Shippers normally load the trailer while it's on the scales and hooked to your tractor. If the company has a drop yard at the shipper, they park the trailer on the scales and then load it. Most chemical shippers have scales on the yard.
Only time I was ever overweight was if I loaded a dry bulk cement trailer and then if there were no scales to cross, just went with it anyway.

 

I've heard potato houses are the worst. In tanks, we scale in, we scale out OF the facility (I do, anyways...) and even if I'm only 80 lbs over, they'll pump OFF a few gallons. You get a feel for the product you are hauling, and can watch as it loads, via the dome....you'll pretty much know when you are pushing your limit(s).

 

Tankers are all about scales
Usually you will scale in load and scale out
Sometimes you load on a scale.
Or you scale off site mt and loaded.
Most places I ask me how heavy i want to gross out at.
They will not let you leave over 80,000, they'll send you back to the rack and revove product til your legal

 

Yeppers, EX EFFING ZACTLY. Can't leave heavy, nope, no way, no how. We tare in, and scale out here, also.

Like Slim said above, you'll have no bad habits (or "box" habits) to unlearn. Nope, man. If you are accepted in at this point, go for it. Prime has pretty good training, I hear (and believe...) and doubt they'd turn you loose any sooner than you'd be comfortable with.
