Oh, trust me....I absolutely understand, and agree. Lived it myself.

Exactly! Now we're on the same page.

Yes sir I do...just hoping newbies and wannabe's do as well.

I apologize if I gave you that impression...I know you're not the "enemy"...just certain words, phrases, thoughts, and sentence structures trigger my thoughts, and I put them down on paper (so to speak). This particular subject is one of the biggest factors in my decision to get away from OTR trucking, and take an hourly job trucking. A job, by the way, that I don't necessarily enjoy---but I get paid for EVERY 10th. of a second that I'm there (and is a couple blocks from the house).

All of our time IS valuable...and WE are WE, collectively. If everybody does their part (instead of sit and take it like sheep or a robot) and do as you say...work for a company that cares and pays....or do as I did, and go get paid by the hour.
It will never change until each individual makes the change themselves.

Right now they're putting an ad out for .55-.60 cpm pay rate. Not sure if that's company driver or O/O. Their ad is very attractive, but having in the transportation industry long, I can't help but raise an eyebrow. If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

.50 was top pay for experiened drivers (That would be me) in late 2001.) Considering inflation since the 80's basic hands should be starting off at .50 and experienced hands should be at least .75 towards a dollar for company trucks these days. With freight rates around 1.99 to 2.60 a mile around the USA that should not be too bad. Teams with experience will most certainly share the dollar or better paid to truck, particularly the husband wife teams. They are the ones that will really be in the income.

Just make sure that Per Diem is yours to keep and claim each year it's worth around 13700 dollars to you at a $45 dollar flat rate over 305 days away from home. I imagine the flat rate would be closer to 60 by now. It will knock your taxes down quite a bit.

Just be very careful what companies you run for as a certain type of drivers, example as a team you do not sit in Americold in Arlington two days. That's not your job. Your job is to race priority loads and waiting around is a total waste of two drivers and a fast truck I can tell you that. And it's a way of making sure that log book never runs out and that truck always roll on. 8000 miles a week even. Kinda hard to stop a team. And the money will take care of itself.

Doing ok here as an owner op. I pay my own insurance and 2290 and trk payment Classic reimburses me for my registration as i have my own.
So far im avg 1.10 net take home on empty and loaded miles. Last 3 payrolls avg 3200 take home.
Classic is 1 of very few that will let you work loads boards but customers come 1st when your in their area. Pros and cons to that. When your in Wisc and freight rates avg 2.75 plus suks taking a load for 1.70 but all in all Classic is a fair handshake
