I wouldn't call him a jerk or anything like that. It wasn't exactly an exchange of threats and insults. I think he's just a wannabe lawyer who picked a silly venue for his test case (and presumably isn't too worried about losing), or was just trying to make himself seem impressive on youtube. It also looks like an easy way to have one's own license, registration, and operating authority revoked (should be quite doable without "cop" theatrics and without impinging upon any American rights).
And, getting out of trucking is what that man ought to do on his own if he is so negligent as to be driving around with deficient brakes and merely concerned only about getting cited for it by a DOT certified officer...

there was someone on here asking about the same thing a while back wonder if it was the same person...lol
but yeah driver is a moron, you make there day hell there make your day hell.bzinger and runningman0661 Thank this. -
Looking at all that crap on the dash there may be a reason he doesn't to get inspected. Trashed interior usuallly coincides with trash equipment.
Wonder what the conclusion of this little stand off was.LoboSolo, NavigatorWife, KillingTime and 1 other person Thank this. -
Honestly, I don't know how these dot inspectors do it. We complain when we meet a jerk officer, but when you consider the mass idiocy they have to endure all day every day, it's no wonder some of them have no patience. I could never do it.
This driver here is obviously a complete knucklehead, but I'll bet even he wasn't the dumbest driver they had to deal with that day.
I agree with the above comments. Treat them with respect, you get the same in return. And keep your truck clean. That trash pile on the dash is a huge red flag to them.CasanovaCruiser, Fatboy42, NavigatorWife and 2 others Thank this. -
i love it when a trucker starts quoting the laws, or the US Constitution.
if he really knew the consequences of his stupidity, he'd shut the heck up, and just get on with it.Last edited: Jul 28, 2017

I would call him a jerk and more, it isn't his place to act like an idiot, he is a crap driver and from what I saw, he is flagged for a reason.
WE don't need this type of idiot in this industry, his crap makes it harder for all of us and perpetuates the them against us mentality and causes the next driver to face a frustrated officer who just wants to do his job.
We have to get this straight, unless you were driving in the early 1930's, there are no right to drive, no freedoms that are just there for us to do what we want. Since the late 30's this industry has been regulated and restricted by every level of government, local, state and federal and this crap about freedom only comes when people learn how to work within the system so not to be targets and not to be idiots when they are inspected.
Out of all of my years driving, I have had two DOT inspections where the cop was rude and a prick. This was the same guy in Ohio who got me two weeks in a row with no violations found the first time but he found my left front brake adjuster wasn't working right and I got nailed for that. I changed my route to avoid this guy in the future and never had another one like him.Big Don, NavigatorWife and Kyle G. Thank this. -
I wonder what would happen if they asked that driver to unlock and hand over his cell phone?
NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
The guy who openly and clearly and openly refuses to be inspected did simplify things quite a bit. It's at least a much quieter and safer way to remove oneself from trucking than playing bumper trucks on the Interstate... The officer could place him out of service for it, gather paperwork, secure and search the equipment, and, unless there is clear evidence that a crime was committed, let the driver call up a cab and go home, then start sorting the rest of the problem out with the company, state and shipper.
If anything, it would have been a jerk move against his company and against whoever was expecting that load to be delivered (unless he is independant and hauling his own load).
There are lots of jerk moves going on out there: Public endangerment by operating unsafe equipment or driving in a careless manner. Parking anywhere and dumping garbage. Company drivers trashing company equipment, leaving messes and liabilities behind for other drivers (with potential for causing disputes between management and those other drivers).NavigatorWife, BigBob410 and runningman0661 Thank this.
