I am currently parked at the TA in Sparks, Nevada and the temperature reads 115°. I'm staring at an Andrus truck, the window is down, a curtain is hanging in the window and he is not idling. He is either a masochist or Andrus does not allow idling. He might already have expired from hyperthermia. Please feel free to post your company's idling policies so that prospective drivers can make an informed decision when choosing a company.

My company is getting all thir new trucks with Detroit Optimized Idle. It back from the 90s. The computers can start the engine for sleeper heat or A/C, battery charging or engine oil temp. Now with the new emissions I can also do a parked regeneration automatically when needed

Averitt has APU's in all trucks and if mine goes (which it did last week) I idled for 3 days before I was able to get to a shop to get it fixed. They don't like idling, mind you... But they really don't like a disgruntled driver more.

Truth be told... if it was that hot out, I wouldn't really care what company policy was... my health/comfort comes first

We have rig masters, but we can idle if we want too. We don't haul freight, so we are not treated as normal freight hauling drivers. I wouldn't work for a company that tells you not to be comfortable, hell they are. Plenty of companies have Apu's.

TMC allows idling above 70 degrees but if you idle too much it'll come back to bite you on your snapshot, trucks have bunk heaters.
Pgt allows idling over 75 and below 30, trucks all have bunk heaters
Builders liberal idle policy trucks have bunk heaters
P&s/nst/mtb/red mountain isle as you need too. If your out of the truck shut it off

Anything over 68 degrees is too hot for me to sleep, especially humid areas. APUs should be standard equipment for OTR.

I would say that depends on the set up. Specially in flatbed as many of those loads will be around 47k to 50k

I have a day cab.... i can idle all day all week long without touching anything. But as its a waste and nobody wants to hear 425 kittens, or would it be puppies? I turn the truck off at every stop. Unless its hot as dick out and the flys are in abundance. Then ill idle, even while im out of the truck making the pick up.

Then nap time comes at the receiver. If its a hair over warm, im going to make it an ice box across two seats.

    What about Knight Transportation?
I'm going to orientation and read they don't allow idle over 30 degrees. Is this true? I hope not because of my diet, I have 10% body fat and will freeze

At the very least they will have a bunk heater. Make no mistake, unless it's in the deep negative degree temp, that bunk heater will run you out of the truck it gets so hot.
