I don't think you'd go wrong with 4 way lockers especially if you're gonna run Canada in the winter. I would never buy a truck without full lockers.

While this is nice for the older non emissions trucks you need to "work" these emissions trucks. The harder the better as the hotter you keep the DPF the better. Actually watched a vid on the YouTube that a guy had a truck from steve with the x15 565/2050 3.36's and tall 24.5's I think and he had a few issues with it pretty early on and cummins pretty much told him he was babying the engine to much causing the DPF to load up and not get cleaned properly. Sense you are going with the 2050 you will get DS40-140 rearends if you go with spicers so you will have 3.58/3.73/3.91 gear choices. I was originally planning 3.73's with my 11r22.5's but ended up going with the 3.58's after talking with the dealer and him telling me that he has a lot of guys running 107-117,000 in Montana, Dakota's and central canada and they are plenty happy. Now Im going to be running 100-105,500 but my speed limits will be 5-10mph slower then those guys so that puts me right on the edge of running 17 when loaded but if Im not happy with the rpm/speed/load I will just drop to LP22.'s. I pretty much did what your doing only in a 4 axle for running heavy up here in the northwest. I went low air leaf as I dont leave pavement much but yet the tallest 5th wheel pedistal to get my 5th wheel at 49" for my tankers but yet I can drop to the lowest pedistal and move over to our flats or vans which both are 4axles as well. Did I mess up on the gears. Not sure yet. My current company truck runs LP 22.5's and 3.91's and I run 50% deadhead miles because of ether food grade or acid tankers and we are customer dedicated so hoping to pickup a little mpg empty. Dont know if I won tell the truck gets here but should be ok.

One other thing is get the big air compressor on the engine. It requires an extended purge dryer but in my case its an asset because at times unloading my chemical tankers I need to use truck air and didnt want to install a PTO driven air compressor as Im already installing a blower for our pneumatics.

Forget the brand new truck, get yourself a nice clean 2015-2016 for fraction of the price..... most likely they still have factory warranty....

How I think of it is, I would rather over spec by a bit and burn more fuel, more everything than to underspec and get some serious damage to your equipment and be limited to what you can do.

Just my 2 cents.. everyone is different

If you plan to do Canada, 244 is the max if you pull a 53 ft trailer.

With my setup I described earlier 18spd 3.55's on LP24.5's 65mph is 1390rpm, 68mph is 1440rpm, and 70mph is 1490rpm. I pull van trailers daily through PA NY and NJ lots of hills and grades even with the X15 565/1850 motor and 77-80k gross, average 6.1mpg and its not even close to being broken in just hit 24,000 miles yesterday.

Being as you have a 389. Have you seen PeterbiltSteves videos? I'd love your opinions of how he specs his trucks.

No. There is a 75' overall lenght limit for BC but you can go up to 284" tractor wheelbases as long as you shorten the trailer up to meet their requirements.
