An active scrip that you are currently taking for a banned drug is a no-go. See if the medication is banned or not. If it can be waived by the examiner, you'll be fine. If it can't be waived, see if there are any non-banned drugs that will work for your problem instead.
What medications disqualify a CMV driver?
The problem with (or advantage of, depending on perspective) hair tests is that they show historic use of drugs, not just current use.
If you had a scrip and took a banned drug in the past for a condition and that is now done, the scrip and a doctor's note should get you past the DOT physical and drug screen. I would expect they would make you take the whiz quiz to make sure you were currently clean.
Each company is going to have their own policies, some stricter than the law requires, some just what is required.
As you can see by the responses that these kinds of questions get here, there are plenty of people who just assume that any concern about drug tests is only something an addict has. And some of these guys own trucking companies. Be upfront with recruiters and interviewers and have the documents available. If you are not currently using any banned medication, or have a waiver, there is a job out there for you.

Careful with this bit of advice. If you are on duty and have ANY prohibited substances in your body that is detected by the drug screen and it is NOT listed on your long form as approved by the Medical Examiner you may not in every case be covered by just having a prescription or a note. The physical is different of course. The main point is any person performing a safety sensitive function in a FMCSA regulated industry can NOT take any of the 5 prohibited substances without the express approval of a FMCSA Registered Medical Examiner and the ONLY exception a Medical Examiner can grant that I know of is narcotics. Truck drivers MUST be extremely careful about taking narcotics.TaterWagon#62 and LoudOne Thank this.
