What does "unattended trailer" really mean?

    yes I understand high value and some hazmats someone has to be with or insight I.didnt want to get off subject of what insurance companies are referring to by a unattended trailer,

    Drop lot with a gate keeper in a shack. It's "Attended" provided that lot has fencing and so on.

    You hire a man day and night shifts, build a shack in your property with trailers, toss people who don't belong out and all your stuff is "Attended"

    As a driver? Eh if that load is on the 5th wheel it's attended.

    Now...

    As a company driver who just dropped a million dollar load of narcotics in a protected and fenced AND most especially attended LOT that we own or rent.... you bet your durn bitty that #### thing is attended until a team can get to it. And that is literally all I will say about that. I refuse absolutely to say where specifically those loads are dropped in Little Rock. That secret I take to the grave. Can you imagine the gangs and parasites with battery saws slavering to breach the fence and grab that stuff???

    Insurance. Ha. Bankruptcy? That's possible.

    I'm really not going to argue the point I've done been through this problem with insurance company. You are just giving a opinion of what you think it means. You didn't read the op post.If your parking going home if you drop your trailer where it's not secure ( in a fenced yard and locked gate ,) that's what insurance companies call unattended but if the tractor is still hooked at the same place .it is no longer unattended doesn't matter if your there or not

    Very true and also depends where you live.With this company I picked up a load then went home for a few days nothing ever happened.I still didn't like taking a load just before hometime but that's how my company operated.For piece of mind I always padlocked the trailer and if I took trk home I used my glad hand locks for trailer.

    The best thing I know off in your situation is try to get your company to give you permission in writing saying it's ok to drop the trailer where you drop it.A lock doesn't keep a thief out just keeps a honest person out.

    AND a 5th wheel lock. I keep the key. Tractor parks on my land at home.

    Anyone can chop through that lock easy. The glad hand locks can be bypassed by ripping out the air lines and bolting in new gladhands and off you go.

    For insurance and police report purposes, you did your best.

    I padlock my empty just cause I don't want to find some mega carriers garbage in it, or someone perhaps needing temporary shelter.

    Hazmat is whole different ballgame. A spot at a drop yard that will let you drop a placarded load is going to really cost you.

    question: why pick it up on I'll say Friday, then drop it in a secured yard for the weekend, hook on monday to drive a total of 300 miles to deliver on Tuesday
    when you can pick it up on monday drive a whopping 300 miles and deliver on tuesday?
