I have been just sniffing around looking into the qualifications to be paid for CDL training from trucking companies.
I should meet every qualification except a verifiable work history.
I was laid off from a construction job in 2007 because of the housing market crash and foreseen recession.
Back then the only work to find was under the table.
At the end of 2011 I became very ill and lost all my savings figuring out what was wrong with me.
I struggled but continued to work under the table till the end of 2012 and I was physically unable to work anymore.
I had to apply for Medicaid which I am still on.
I do not qualify for cash assistance.
It took a a year or so to feel better enough to be able to work again.
At the end of 2013 My Father became Ill and I decided to take care of him .
He is better now and I need a job as I have nothing in the way of income or savings.
Truck driving would be perfect for me as I have no Wife or children.
I have read where these companies will turn you down if you do not have a verifiable work history for the last 6 to 12 months.
Anyone out there know a way around this.
I know working under the table is illegal and I do not want to mention this but how do you think this country was built?
Any suggestions around this dilemma would be appreciated.
Thanks~
varifiable work history

Work for a dump truck in your area. Throwing down stone etc. They will put you on unemployment come winter.
Give it a year or two, maybe longer if you like it.
PResto employment history. Go look for bigger fish.. er class A OTR companies. -

What?
Sure you answered the right thread? -
Yes.
Man wants employment history out of nothing.
Hire onto a class B local dump truck outfit that does not check anything and will pay cash if necessary. Work a few years.
Apply to OTR trucking when you have your employment time without gaps or tickets. Like I did. -
You mean recent work history?
I'm 56 and worked for 30 years before being laid off in 2007.
With your suggestion I might as well look into something else.
Even if I came up with the money for training no none would hire me because of a gap in work history.
These trucking Companies must not be in desperate need of more drivers if they won't hire you because you had to stop working for valid reasons.Last edited: Aug 4, 2017

Now there. Are companys that WILL hire you. Because they need a body on that semi truck.
The biggest problem anyway with ALL newbie CDL holders in the whole USA fresh from DMV ready to work is not going hired on because they have nothing for the OTR companies. SO they struggle.
(ESPECIALLY over coming disability medical problems...Im disabled myself medically. Until someone builds a reinstall spine... good for humans in 50 years I guess...) and ESPECIALLY thinking of passing our ever increasingly draconian DOT medical checks....
And especially being a caregiver....
those are really valid reasons.
If a company is so stone cold hearted and tightfisted with no compassion or feewlings refusing to hire someone who has overcome all these life challenges because of a few gaps in the precious work history, Burn em. -
I'm not disabled.
I ended up having autoimmune thyroid disease that knocked me on my butt.
Till I found the right doctor and medication I truly thought I was dying.
Within a year I am in better health than I ever was as I suspect I had this thyroid problem most of my life.
My 90 year old WW2 veteran Father became I'll with heart disease.
I have an enormous respect for my Dad and he deserved to be taken care of with dignity.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
My mother died from auto immune that was traced eventually to her failing liver (Partly from too many bloody maries...) they replaced liver. She died anyway on life support. Autospy revealed a total and complete different reason for her being sick all these years, a bacterial infection outside of her lungs inside the chest wall. (Something I over came as a infant with broncital damage not revealed until MRI about age 42)
Sometimes we wonder if she would still be alive if someone anyone had taken the trouble to drain that green sac of infection from her chest. Just once.
But... ya know what? I still respect you greatly.
My spouse was a caregiver for a while until she had to stop. She brought home some of the people that she took care of at the end of their lives, usually dementia. I learned a whole lot from her.
Do your best be happy and I look forward to reading your success down the road ok? -
Well maybe I should start making some calls to these companies and see what they say.
I won't be serious about any employment till the beginning of next year.
My Father has a lot of health problems but he keeps bouncing back.
He still walks around as good as any of us and still drives his car.
Men from his era are made of steel......
Thanks for your suggestion.x1Heavy Thanks this.
