I took six months between jobs. I just put down that I was day trading stocks at home.

Big difference between 6 months and 10 years wouldn't you say?
But I have verifiable legitimate reasons for this gap.

I had problems with work history also and got ignored by a couple companies.
Best way to try is just say you were "out of workforce" and leave it at that.

Everything else on my record was perfect..couldn't asked for better..
    1. Paul Transportation took me in.. (didn't work out)
    2. Schneider ignored me after giving me a pre-hire.
    3. Ctl turned me down because of no work history.
    4. Werner was willing to take me on (decided against )
    5. A shady L/O took me in and screwed me out of $4k +
    6. My current job didn't care about work history. (Turning out to be an awesome job )

In short..you're just going to have to make a bunch of phone calls. Some will overlook it, others won't.

Try getting your license from a private school instead of through a trucking company.

Only a few companies in my general area.
    Philadelphia Pennsylvania suburbs.
I don't want to waste a lot of my time it this is going to be a challenge.
Remember, I'm going on 56 and not getting any younger.
I can't borrow that kind of cash unless it was a sure thing.
    I'd need financing.

I'd think Philadelphia is a very good hiring area for OTR truck drivers.

When I was declared disabled, the effective tax years were over that year. It's coming up on 20 years since I filed taxes. I still keep up on that though, don't want to get rusty.

Like I said before I have a few things over the rest of this years to take care of and even considering this type of work is a long way off.
Just checking around the internet first and getting other experiences first.
The reason for coming to this forum.
Just don't want to waste too much time at a long shot. If someone in my situation with no recent work history , no income , bad or no credit and so on doesn't have a chance.
    Thanks for your input.

You'll need someone to verify where you worked and unemployed.Ask your dad to write a letter. The employer will need that for their record.

I will eventually call a few of these places and find out if I have any chance at all.
