It would be cool if somebody could make a similar video showing similar results using a
TIP35C. which only costs $1.55.

Has anybody seen this?

Man he's a fast tech LOL WONDER ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THAT WORK !!! RUNS COOLERBlaskowitz Thanks this.

Mark should do one and give his opinion on it

Here is the datasheet..

I guess if Magnum engineers felt that using a similar transistor was that crucial they would of used one originally, I dont think 6 watts pep is worth the upgrade but the difference of 60 degrees might be worth it if there has been a high failure rate with that radio which I doubt there has as long as it has been kept at stock settings and not jacked up, but in this example 40 watts pep is not jacked up.
-
Interesting video though, thanks Rabbi.

The larger package dissipates heat more efficiently so even if you reduce the output power of the radio back to what it was prior to the installation of the device you would have much less heat to worry about. That's always a good thing.wolverine11 Thanks this.

I agree with that but is 199 degrees normal for that , and most other 10 meter radios, or is it dangerous? If it is dangerous then these radio manufacturers are selling an inferior product that is prone to failure from the factory. If 199 degrees is normal operating temperature then I personally myself wouldnt be to concerned with it.Last edited: Aug 6, 2017

The Magnum One retails for approximately $259.50 before a conversion, so if I am paying close to 300 bills for a radio it better be good to use without having to upgrade any important componants to ensure that it doesnt have premature failure.

Now if upgrading this transistor improves the performance of the radio for some it may be worth the expense, but the main emphasis in the video was the reduction in heat that is generated during prolonged keydown, so he really didnt touch upon improved performance except for mentioning increase of 6 watts pep.
