I know on the Anytone AT-6666 heat is a major issue and anything we can do to help that heat dissipate is an added bonus. The stock regulator gets really hot

I think what would really grab ones attention is an upgrade for the final(s) transistor that would generate more watts pep with a significant decrease in temperature, isnt that why the heat sink is on that side of the radio to dissapate heat from the finals?

Do you think 199 degrees is about normal for most 10 meter radios? And whether or not the heat is making the radio prone to early failure, like you mentioned, it can only be a good thing in the long run, so I can understand your interest in the upgrade.

That's what the Motorola mrf 477 final is for . Unfortunately they quit making them a long time ago but if somebody ever figures out how to put one in the anytone radio I'll be the first to jump on the conversion

Does AT-6666 , in your opinion, get hotter than previous 10 meter radios that you have used? And I know you have used quite a few of them.

I've never measured temperature so I don't know what is normal but I know if I was to reach inside and touch the regulator I would burn myself.

Thats not good so maybe the manufacturers are turning cheap and using inferior componants and when it comes to heat it may be advised to upgrade transistors to avoid a heat related issue.

You can bet Cb shops are going to start advertising this upgrade and drivers will pay to have it done especially on some of the higher power radios (50+watts) it shouldnt be required on basic single final radios but they will try and convince you that it should be done, just my humble opinion.

The heatsink on the anytone radio is a very inefficient design but the radio itself has a lot of potential so at some point in the future I do plan on having a machine shop manufacturer a custom heatsink for them. I don't ratchet jaw for long periods of time so I don't exactly overwork the thing and make it get too hot. I am very careful with how I use it.
