Found a 1995 KW T600 in Fort Worth TX. Drove out Thursday evening. Bought the truck and got it back home today. AC took a crap on the way home.Blower will kick in, then back out. So stopped half way home yesterday. And got up and hit the road again at 4am this morning. Been a lot of years running a truck with the windows down.
Truck ran good on the way home. My wife was following me. And when I hit the Jake in Dallas around 4am Friday morning. Smoke went everywhere! I guess the jake brake had not been used in a while. (Thinking the overhead may need to be ran also) When 3 stage hit it sure put out a lot of black smoke. After that just a little a couple of times. Then nothing after that, she was scared the engine has blown up.
Truck has a detroit 11.1 in it. RT14710B trans and 2.93 gears from the factory. Its a factory big sleeper with sofa. And single axle truck. Funny part is for some reason it was ordered with 4 150 gallon fuel tanks. Still have not found how they planned on getting fuel into the back 2 tanks. Mounted right in behind the front 2 tanks. Fuel lines and vent lines are ran back to them. Guessing they only get fuel from the cross over lines?
Running 70 MPH the engine is turning 16500. 295/70R22.5 tires on it also. As with any used truck we buy. I'm still finding stuff on it. The guy left something bolted under the drink holder in the middle. Has a heatsink on the bottom of it. 2 rocker switches with a red light and a rocker switch in the middle. It does look as though it has coax connections on back. will look and make sure. Figure it a CB amp from the looks of it.
Also in the glove compartment is a small box. It has SAT connection on one side. Other has GPS so figure its something he had in there for a GPS? Will get the numbers off it when it cools down.
Upper window covers were in the sleeper. But everyone was those were pulled off. Snapped them back on this am. Sleeper curtains are not in the truck. But I will buy the shades for the door glass and windshield.
Going to get the bottom end of the engine checked out next week. Truck only has 628,000 miles on it. But still for peace of mine. Will check rod and main bearings. Rather make sure there in good shape off the bat.
New steer tires, whats the best for buck? Want a average wearing tire, that rides good. Figure around 75,000 miles per year for a few years.
Also the jake on this truck, Is strong and loud. Thinking the muffler on it may be hollow. But the engine does not sound over loud. And with the windows up, its quite. But Jake can be heard loud with the windows up.
I know way to much info. But new to me truck. And as soon as I can get it on the road. Then the fun is over.
