We haul a lot of meat. Most of our loads are "just in time" freight. We're not that different from any other reefer outfit. We have a LOT of detention. That's just the nature of reefer work. Every load puts me on a different work/sleep schedule. That's one of the things I enjoy about reefers.
As for Don, I've seen him around, but I've never spoken to him. I've said this many times, you gotta know how to run to make it here.
Welcome, I I hope working here is everything you're looking for.
Freymiller , how cool is that?

Ssandman, is Freymiller sticking with manual transmission trucks or are they following the Industry trend right now towards automatics?
-
I did real well in reefer work because I liked the odd hours and appointment times. Not everyone can cut it in reefers, but it was a perfect fit for me. I did a lot of night driving which is great, less traffic, no glare from the sun, many scales closed. At night can enjoy a thermos of hot coffee and XM radio in my solitude; dang near perfect for a trucker.steelcitytrucka, Ssand Man and carramrod32 Thank this.

I don't have an answer on that. I know we have some autos, but mostly 9 speeds.Need4Speed Thanks this.

You said it perfectly. Also, at 0500-0600, I can have the best parking spots in the truck stop at the end of my shift!Need4Speed and Chinatown Thank this.

Have you heard from any of the guys how many miles the guys get on the 6 State Regional Fleet?
-
I had a guy hired to regional in orientation with me, he didn't give his miles the last time I talked to him, but he did say he was doing very well and enjoying it. We have mostly nine speed manual transmissions with a few automatics. I haven't heard of any plans to go all automatics. We do have allot of meat loads and yes there is detention but this company is a master at working around those detention times and keeping your miles per week high.

Update...Don Freymiller called me on my birthday to wish me a happy birthday. Pretty cool.
As for detention, Freymiller pays, when/if the customer pays. They can't do anything about appointment times and detention at a Walmart DC. It is what it is.
If you don't have patience, reefer work may not be the best fit for you.
