No kidding!
Other competition and Independents are the reason the rates are in the toilet. -
I work for fritz lay on as Route salesman, andI see Schnieder trailers in our yard, and see o/o as well as our company drivers in our tractors, pullung our trsilers. I plan on investing in a truck and lease it on to a carrier and hire a driver out here . Ive been doing my research and crunching numbers, and based on the company that I plan on leasing a truck onto, running the truck on average 2100 -2500 weekly can gross the truck $175000 annually, not bad, just have to pay my druver nice, and hopefully I can still make a profit. I've talked to some of the o/o''s while they wait to get unloaded, one guy was leased onto schneider, and the others, I don't know, I see them with their own tractor's pulling our freight but I heard it not much, the company drivers make about $70,00-$80000 with benefits, and they are teamsters. The plus for me, if I enter the business, is my day job will cover my living expenses, and the trucking would be a business venture for me, that I feel that revenue can be made.

I know you originally wrote that in 2017, but that's not bad... its HORRIBLE! Avg. 2350 miles/week for $175k gross = only $0.70 cpm! Fuel will eat all of that and more, so you would be completely out of pocket for the driver's pay, the rest of the fuel, all the maintenance, the truck payment, and the taxes... well what few taxes there would be after a $200,000 loss.
