ok guys, here's the scoop and I need all the advise you can give me. I drove trucks OTR for 26 years, from 1985-2011 but still have my CDL with all endorsements. Never had a ticket or accident, record is clean. I got out of trucking in 2011 because I was offered a once in a lifetime job with The railroad and thought I'd finally found the perfect job to retire at with great benefits making $80,000+/year. Now after almost 7 years, I'm looking at being layed off from the railroad and having to get back into trucking. I haven't kept up with the trucking industry since I've been out of it and not up to date on good companies vs bad companies. I had intentions of buying another truck and leasing it on with Landstar but they require 1 year exp. (within the past 6 months), so that killed that. Now I'm looking for a decent company to get that year experience in for Landstar before I can move over there to them.. I'm in Mobile, Al. Area if that helps any... Any suggestions on a quality company? I'm 52 years old and don't have the patience for some of these ### wipe companies that like to play games with their drivers. Thanks!
Old hand getting back to trucking

Abilene Motor Express might hire you. Their trucks run 72 mph. They hired one driver that had been off the road 10 years.

We have several members here on the older end of the spectrum that just got into this. I see little reason why you couldn't.

Yeah, I really don't have much choice but to go back on the road. It's about all I know. To be honest, I've actually missed it everyday but being home at night with a great job would have been hard to walk away from. I've thought about checking with May Trucking over in Pensacola, Seminole express here in the county I live in but I'm not sure of the pay etc. I've owned my own truck most of my trucking career and not up to par with what these companies have to offer. I'll check in with Abeline Motor express also, as Chinatown mentioned above.

No doubt Western Express will hire you, but I'd try the others first.
What about Wiley Sanders Truck Lines in Troy,AL? One of his female drivers posted the other day he's been receiving new trucks at the terminal. -
Check with Garrison Cullman, Al.

I'll definitely check with these companies.. I sure appreciate all the replies. It's tough starting back over from scratch but gotta do what we gotta do
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Bulldog has terminal in mobile. If you want open deck

71 mph on cruise, 69 mph on the pedal.
Just an FYI.Chinatown Thanks this. -
You did 26 years... you'll be fine. If you mostly owned your own truck why not go that way again? The market is REALLY good right now.
