    Thanks Chinatown,
Yeah, that's me, I've been retired for a few years but want to get back in the workforce, I have a super clean history and MVR and my prior employment was as an aircraft mechanic. I think I would make some company a great driver. It would be really nice to find a company that has presence in Northern Calif. Thanks for the info.

This looks like an interesting job. I've seen this stuff on the road. Those blades are really long.

Any thoughts on CDL schools up here? I've been looking at Western Truck School in Sacramento or JGC Truck driving school here in Santa Rosa. I also talked with Roadmaster, but they lean very heavy toward Werner.

Werner owns Roadmaster so they'll shove Werner down your throat.
Call a few companies you're interested in and ask which school they hire from. Many companies don't care as long as it's 160 hrs., which in that case just go to the cheapest one unless the company you want does tuition reimbursement, then either price is ok.

JGC looks good; it's 160 hrs.
"This institution is a private institution approved to operate by the Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education and was issued Institutional Code 41500893, by approval to operate it means that we are in compliance with state standards as set forth in the California Private Postsecondary Education Act of 2009."

Flatbed is pretty good. I did it for awhile when I lived in Tennessee, my home state. Hauled lots of construction equipment, such as bulldozers, etc. from the east coast to California. Most were being exported to China. Hauled lots of commercial air conditioners from a plant in Tennessee to California. Usually hauled lumber out of California back to the east coast.
Never know what's on the next flatbed load. Once hauled a boiler for a heating system from the east coast to Burnaby, Canada.
There's 3 pretty good flatbed outfits that will probably hire you.
    Leavitt's
    Melton Truck Lines

I think these guys are the winners, at least for now, and I wouldn't have to live in a motel for 6 weeks since I live in the same town.
