    Like a pig wearing lipstick.

See the idiots with extra chicken lights on a Volvo? What a waste trying to dress up a Volvo.

The air ride front axle feels like you're going to fall over and the short wheelbase feels like you're hitting the same pothole at the same time.

No thanks. Been there done that got the tshirt.

I appreciate the advice, Larry. I've no doubt I would enjoy most every aspect of OTR trucking, to include the physical labor and the inconveniences of living in a box and the unreal (to most people) time away from home.

Dealing with separation, long hours and adverse conditions are all a mindset. I learned that through many years in the canoe club. Many people were one and done with the experience. I kept coming back for more. I guess I was a glutton for punishment.

    One more general question....

If you do not have a local terminal, where do you park a truck say over a weekend if you're under a load ?

I have no place at my residence and I can't imagine leaving a flatbed load unattended at a truckstop for a day or more.

    Airborne Thanks this.

I was on USS Vreeland (FF-1068) and USS New Jersey (BB-62).
I liked that Frigate; we were all over the place; Atlantic & Pacific. Panama Canal, Suez Canal and some wild times. El Salvador, Nicaragua, Yemen, and on and on. Wild, fun times, building memories. What about that Green Door Street in Hamburg,Germany; red light district behind the Green Door.

I had those problems while pulling a skateboard usually in "Union" Mills.

I was 51 years old when I started flatbed with only 6 mths in trucking ... flatbedders are without a doubt the tightest group of drivers on the road . When I first started driving I pulled dry van and was really disappointed in the lack of brotherhood in drivers. That changed the day I started flatbed, any situation, any help you ever need will be given to you as a flatbed driver from any other flatbedder. I urge you to look into Melton truck lines and good luck with your trucking ambitions
