I was searching for a thread for advice on citations but couldn't find it ..

But basically I was driving in the rainy/wet terrain where the lanes on the highway were reduced too one driving lane.. I increased my following distance and the car in front of me stopped way too soon I hit the brakes and truck slowly hydroplanes into the back
Of the car no damage just a bump no scratches or anything like that. But it was a state car with three people inside no danger again to anyone or the car just a bump I got a citation for failure to reduce speed and it also says property damage when no pictures were taken.. is there anything I can do to contest the ticket ?

I am a new OTR driver and I'll be out of the state next week to go home and be off work and I won't be back in the state of Illinois anytime soon I need advice

Your best option is to consult with an attorney. Just FYI though. Almost every state has a law in place stating you must not drive faster then conditions warrant. You hydroplaned and struck the vehicle in front of you. It is either you were following too close or were driving to fast for conditions. Like I said consult an attorney.

Traffic was barely moving and I had my space but he just stopped suddenly for no reason and as I'm holding the brake I slowly hydro plane as slow as a snail and bump him

Yeppers, guilty as charged. In MI it's called a "basic speed violation" i.e. Did not make it from point a to point b without a wreck. (No, I will not admit how I know that)

As for the actual citation, first was there an inspection report with it?

If not, it's just a simple ticket most any ticket jockey will take to get it dismissed/reduced.

Doesn't matter. You rear ended another vehicle. Unless that other vehicle was actively in reverse trying to hit you it's 100% your fault for not controlling your vehicle.

I understand and yes a level 3 inspection I passed that .. so do I just pay the citation and let it go on my record ? Or what needs to be done besides getting a attorney

If there was an inspection, 100% fight it. A rear end wreck can be a career ender, even a minor one. Company's hate read end wrecks, roll overs, and U turn wrecks. Almost all of them need to be fought.
Get a lawyer that deals with CMV tickets / wrecks and see what he has to say.

That's not right! It was raining
and the other driver just got a bump. Bumpity bump bump. Should be nothing. Plus you get credit for increasing following distance before hand.:p
