I personally try to stay off the 40 between Santa Rosa and ABQ as much as possible. Going between Clovis and Austin, or Clovis and the Denver area seems to give me no problems when on a personal road trip. The mix of state roads and freeways seems to cut down on any, odd-ball traffic patterns on those routes.
But anytime I have to do something in Albuquerque, the stretch of the 40 between there and Santa Rosa seems to be notorious for the "elephant races". Nothing like cruising along at 75 and such and then have to cut the speed suddenly for some ding-dong not paying attention to their mirrors and decides to play the 55 vs 56 up-the-hill game.
And then of course there's the frequency of accidents along that stretch as well. Just the other day, there was a smashed up RV and a MASH chopper in the WB lane outside of Santa Rosa. Such a simple stretch of road, but trouble-prone to the max.
Also, I suspect that since the 40 has the unfortunate distinction of being a major "freight lane", this is bound to happen more often than usual.
Nothing like driving in a regular vehicle and seeing the habits of other truckers out there. Then thinking, "Man, I knew we were terrible. Just didn't know we blew that horrifically."
Freeways you avoid when driving personal vehicle.

Awhile back, they had the upper deck shut down. Sewage leak they said. Huh? Then later they said it was a sewage spill ON the upper deck. Apparently a truck of some sort spilled a bunch of animal poo all over the road.MidwestResident, passingthru69, bentstrider83 and 1 other person Thank this. -

I like to stay off of I75 between Cincinnati and Toledo whenever possible, and use a combination of US highways, state highways, and surface streets instead. Depending on time of day, it can often be faster than the Interstate.

I use waze in my car, never in my truck though. It's mandatory here with all the road closures and construction.
