Got a physical done in June, passed without any issue, got a two-year. Started with a company in July and they gave me another physical. This time the doc was super picky, gave me all kinds of trouble, wanted me to get a bunch of documentation and so on. The company ended up sending me home on "medical suspension."

I got the doc what he asked for but now he's pressing for more and I'm getting a bit tired of it, so I'm wondering what other options I might have. Specifically, how much trouble am I going to have going to another company if I just bail on my current company now? Is every company equally picky? (The doctor who gave me my physical back in June certainly wasn't.) How much of this will show up on my DAC?

I didn't end up doing any actual driving for my current company, I was just at orientation for a few days, though they did cut me a paycheck. And I did pass the drug screen -- this is unrelated.

Some companies don't even give another physical; they will accept your current medical card.
Do you still have your medical card?

I still have it but my company told me it became invalid as soon as I took the physical with them.

Mostly I'm just wondering how best to approach going to another company at this point. I mean I'm sure it's going to show up on my DAC that I was with my current company, and I'm not sure how good an idea it is to say "I'm switching to you cus they wouldn't give me a medical." And as I said, I don't know how much of why my current company suspended me will end up visible to other companies.

(I know this is vague, I'm not comfortable getting super specific about medical info on public forums.)

DAC is not your issue. Your issue is what information did this second examiner put on the examiner database, if any? Be very careful what you do next.

Okay, well how do I find that out? Is there a way to find it out? I didn't even know there *was* an examiner database...

You should NEVER leave a DOT physical without a filled out long form EVEN if no card is issued. Honestly I do not know what to tell you except GO BACK to that examiner and see if they will tell you.

Go back where you got the original physical and get another one. This time hire on with a company that won't require another physical.
You can ask a company, "Do you require another physical or will you accept my current physical?"
If a company says they require another physical, don't apply there.

...and people wonder why I say not to re-take a physical with a "company doctor" when you already have a valid physical. Hell, even if I'm needing a physical, I'll get it on my own OUTSIDE of the company. Sure, the company will pay for THEIR "doctor" to perform the exam...but where else might their loyalties lie? They getting kickbacks from a "sleep study" program? Making extra money by selling CPAP machines? Or perhaps the company is simply telling their "doctor" to find reasons to eliminate certain people they can't really justify not hiring so they don't have to worry about discrimination lawsuits? Or any other number of reasons a company "doctor" might have to deny a 4-year card to anyone.

It just ain't worth the hassle. For $60, I'll get my own physical from a doctor in the registry. If that is unacceptable to you, I wonder what your motivation for that decision might be. I probably won't find that motivation acceptable, and it calls into question any other demands or policies you might have...so I just won't work for you.

I agree with every post on this thread up to my comments on yours. In the abstract I agree with what you posted here. However when you do go back make sure you tell this examiner about the 2nd physical and make sure it is on the long form. If the FMCSA does see those 2 physicals they will be expecting to see the information being the same. If not they might accuse of doctor shopping and nullify the last physical.

Well I can't really "go back" to the doctor that's about to fail me because he's two states away, so if he won't mail me the long form then I'm not sure how I'd get it. And I sure don't have the cash to pay for yet another physical. Kinda at the end of my rope here financially.
