- Position: CDL A (HazMat REQ)Tractor-Trailer Truckload Driver Dedicated
- Job Group: Driver
UPS Freight Truckload is hiring individuals to work as Full-time Dedicated Dry Van Drivers. This position involves the driving of a tractor-trailer for the over-the-road delivery of freight to two or more locations. Dedicated drivers are primarily assigned to run freight for one customer, and may be assigned to an operation based at a specific customer location. These drivers are normally on the road from one to two days at a time. The term “dedicated” refers to the customer, not a particular lane or destination.

@Antec426 - start a new thread under "Questions From New Drivers"
This way, more drivers will see your questions.
Here's some companies you can check that hire new grads:
ARG Trucking Corp. - more regional than OTR.
Freymiller - one of the best coast to coast refrigerated carriers out there. Hires new cdl grads and gives additional training through their "Restore Program" which is described on the website.
Melton Truck Lines - coast to coast flatbed.
Calex Logistics - coast to coast & hauls lots of produce out of California back to the Northeast.
Schuster - nations largest ice cream hauler; Blue Bunny Ice Cream is the major contract.
Magnum Ltd. - not sure they hire in Albany, but worth a phone call. Many drivers there making $1000 - $1500 weekly.
PI&I Motor Express - Teamster outfit. Reputation isn't the best, but to each his own. Maybe they're ok, from what I've read and heard the union drivers tend to squabble. Stay above the fray and maybe do ok. I don't think they run west of the rockies, but you can call and ask.
There's more companies to consider; let us know what you prefer.
Make a list of companies you like, then during the first week of CDL school, submit job applications. You'll get several job offers and can choose the best offer and be ready to hit the road the day you graduate. Get all the endorsements before graduating, especially tanker/hazmat. If you want Canada runs, get a passport.Last edited: Aug 19, 2017

Freight and UPS are the "same" company in that UPS owns both but that is where the similarties stop sadly, so you can't transfer between the two. Unfortunately when I last checked it would appear I'd be waiting approximately 8 years unless a decent amount quit or get fired. Also I greatly appreciate the help in compiling a list of reputable companies and the steps to take.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Couldn't help it, got sucked right in and could not stop reading over the past two weeks.

Chinatown is kind of the guru around here for questions like yours

Here's some more that may hire in your area:
Abilene Motor Express
Shaffer Trucking
Since you want OTR I'd look for companies with APU and other driver amenities, such as flatscreen tv hookups, refrigerator, etc. Freymiller, Magnum Ltd., J&R Schugel, Melton, Schuster have all that. That's not to say the other companies aren't good to get a career started, because they are. What I'm getting at is you may as well ride in style & comfort if you can. -
So many people read your thread because they become mesmerized by your sport coat!TB John, bigred81 and Knucklehead Thank this.
